When preparing a master tape, an engineer should always check for mono compatibility. Too
much out-of-phase material can cause signals to reduce or even disappear in mono. When
cutting onto vinyl, out-of-phase bass will cause the cutter to jump about wildly, resulting in a
quiet cut . By passing a problem tape through the WCR 35 , mono-ing the bass, then summing
the high and low outputs, out-of-phase bass will be eliminated below the chosen crossover
frequency.
