If you are brewing coffee for cappuccino, set the flavor
selector dial to « ».
Position the carafe on the hotplate and switch on the
appliance by turning the function switch to the « »
symbol.
Brewing time per cup is approximately 1 minute.
As long as the function switch is in the « » position the
pilot light is illuminated and the hotplate and carafe
remain hot.
Automatic shut-off
The appliance is protected against overheating by an
automatic shut-off feature. After two hours, the hotplate
will automatically be switched off and the pilot light will
go out. If you want to brew coffee again, first turn the
function switch back to the «off» position. Then turn it
to the « » symbol (on position) and the indicator light
will come on again.
Permanent screen filter
Your coffeemaker is equipped with a permanent
screen filter which may be used in place of paper filters.
Please note the following:
Put the ground coffee into the center of the permanent
screen filter and prepare your coffee as described above.
To clean, rinse the permanent screen filter under running
water. Periodically clean it with a soft brush or sponge -
do not use abrasive cleansers or pads. The permanent
screen filter is dishwasher-safe.
C Frothing milk or heating up liquids
Fill the small water tank (9) with cold water. (Never fill
it with milk or other liquids.) Swing out the frothing
attachment. Fill a small stainless steel frothing pitcher
half-full with cold milk and position it under the frothing
attachment so that the nozzle is immersed in the milk.
Be certain not to immerse the nozzle in the milk above
the «ring» marking located on the neck of the nozzle.
Turn the function switch to the « » position.
When the froth starts to rise, lower the pitcher in order
to keep the froth below the "ring" marking on the nozzle.
After frothing, turn the function switch to the «off»
position.
If you want to keep brewed coffee warm, turn the
function switch back to « ».
To heat up liquids (milk, chocolate or water), be certain
to remove the nozzle (13) and immerse the steam tube
only into the pitcher.
It is recommended that you clean the frothing
attachment (12) and removable nozzle (13) immediately
after frothing. Remove the frothing attachment by
squeezing both plastic pins and pulling it down.
Then pull off the removable nozzle from the frothing
attachment and wash with warm water and soap.
The nozzle is also dishwasher-safe.
After cleaning, push the nozzle onto the frothing
attachment and put the frothing attachment back on
the tube by clicking it into place on the steam tube.

D Cleaning
Always unplug the appliance before cleaning.
Never clean the appliance under running water, nor
immerse it in water, wipe clean with a damp cloth only.
All removable parts are dishwasher-safe.
E Decalcifying
(without illustrations)
If you experience poor frothing performance
or prolonged coffee brewing time, you should decalcify
both the steam section and the coffee section of the
appliance.
For decalcification use white vinegar.
Note: If you have installed a water filter cartridge (7),
you must remove it and put the space compensator
into the large water tank cavity before beginning the
decalcification process.
First decalcify the steam section:
1. For decalcification of the steam section fill the
small water tank (9) halfway with water, then fill
the remainder of the water tank to the top with
white vinegar.
2. Remove the frothing attachment and immerse the
steam tube into a container filled with water.
3. Be sure that the steam tube opening is immersed in
the water in order to prevent steam from escaping,
which will result in an offensive smell.
4. Turn the function switch to the « » position.
Stop the pumping action after 30 seconds and allow
the solution to sit in the water tank for 10 minutes,
then pump the entire solution from the water tank.
5. Repeat steps 1 through 4, being sure to pump the
entire solution from the water tank each time.
6. After pumping the solution through the steam tube,
refill the small water tank with cold water only, remove
the frothing attachment and pump the water into a
container. Repeat this procedure a second time.
Then decalcify the coffee section:
1. Fill the large water tank (5) with cold water up to the
3 cup mark on the water level indicator.
2. Add white vinegar up to the 6 cup mark on the water
level indicator.
3. Place the carafe with the lid onto the hotplate (14),
close the swing-out filter basket (10) and switch on
the coffeemaker. It is important that no filter or coffee
grounds be in the swing-out filter basket.
4. Allow the decalcifying solution to run through.
5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 at least three times, being
sure to prepare a new decalcification solution (steps
1 & 2) each time, in order to remove all residual
buildup.
6. Then run 12 cups of fresh cold water only through the
brewing cycle at least twice to remove any residual
vinegar solution so as to thoroughly clean the
machine.
Subject to change without notice.
