Rinsing
Water Quality: if possible, use demineralised water, free
from contamination.
Depending on the application, rinsing with cold or warm
water in the forward flow direction is recommended,
prior to putting the SUPRApak filter unit into operation.
The recommended rinsing volume with water (room
temperature) at usual flow rates is:
Recommended
Module Type
Volume
(per module)
SUPRApak / L
340 liter (90 gallons)
SUPRApak / XS
5 liter (1.3 gallons)
If requested, rinsing can be done in re-circulation, with
water, suitable fluid or product.
If a higher flow rate is available, rinsing can be done with
a higher flow rate to shorten the rinsing time. However,
the maximum flow rate has to be adapted to the filter
media in use and the application and it may vary. Please
check the appropriate product data sheets for details,
or contact Pall.
5.1 Rinsing of SUPRApak modules in higher
temperature applications
When using the SUPRApak unit at operating
temperatures above 40 °C (104 °F), the unit should
be rinsed directly before use with rinsing water of the
same elevated temperature to rinse and at the same
time heat up the SUPRApak unit. Otherwise the
unfiltrate may thicken or even crystallize within the
cool unit and the unit may be irreversibly blocked or
damaged and cannot be used any longer.
6
Sanitization
SUPRApak depth filter modules are not supplied sterile.
6.1 Sanitization in place with hot water
Please check the appropriate product data sheets
for parameters regarding sanitization, or contact Pall.
In cases where sanitization is allowed, please follow
these guidelines:
Water quality: If possible, use demineralised water,
free of contamination.
Depending on the type of SUPRApak modules in
use, sanitization with hot water in a forward flow
direction of filtration with a maximum temperature of
85 °C (185 °F) is recommended for an individual
period of 20 minutes.
Maximum cumulative exposure : 10 cycles = 200
minutes. No back pressure is allowed.
Product and back pressure surges must be avoided
during flushing, sanitization or filtration in order to
avoid damage and to achieve optimal use of the
SUPRApak filter unit.
In order to avoid injuries from escaping hot water,
it is imperative to observe the corresponding safety
and protection measures.

SUPRApak filter module replacement
SUPRApak depth filter modules should be replaced
according to the application requirements of the
process, or when the maximum allowable differential
pressure has been reached (please refer to appropriate
Pall data sheet), or when the flow rate has become
unacceptable, whichever occurs first.
Discard filter units in accordance with local Health
and Safety and Environmental requirements for the
materials present.
Due consideration must also be given to the nature of
the contaminants on the filters before disposing of
used filters.
