External device monitoring (EDM)
The EDM checks if the contactors (or other switching devices) actually
de-energise when the protective device responds. If, after an
attempted reset, the EDM does not detect a response from the
switched device within 420 ms, the EDM will deactivate the OSSD
switching outputs again.
You must implement the EDM electrically by the positive closing
action of both N/C contacts (k1, k2) when the contact elements (K1,
K2) reach their de-energised position due to the interruption of the
light path. 24 V is then applied at the input of the EDM. If 24 V is not
applied after a light path interruption, one of the contact elements is
defective and the EDM prevents the machine restart. The EDM
function is active in the status as delivered.
• The EDM remains active after switching the device off and back on
again.
• To deactivate the EDM, connect pin 3 and 10 on the safety
evaluation device UE401 to 24 V.
