5. Function
How these sets work: These railroad grade crossings func-
tion with contact tracks as switches. The railroad grade
crossing is turned on and off by means of the electrically
conductive axles on the locomotives and the cars.
Important: If you use other makes of cars with insulated
wheel sets, this may lead to malfunction of the railroad
grade crossing.
6. Setup and Connections
Setup of this grade crossing (see starting on Page 20) is
to done only under the supervision of adults. Unplug the
switched mode power pack / transformer from the house-
hold current in order to prevent damage during setup. Do
not plug the switched mode power pack / transformer into
the wall outlet until you are finished with all of the wiring.
This grade crossing can be connected with Digital
START UP, my world (before 2014), and Digital.

The built-in cable may not be changed or altered.
The cable between the two halves of the railroad grade
crossing may be pulled out under the cover or it may be
pushed in under the cover if it is too long. Lay the cable in
the gap on the track-street piece under the contact tabs
(see Pages 20-24).
The contact area between the track-street piece and the
two contact tracks must be lengthened for prototypical early
lowering of the gates. Any piece of C Track can be used for
this. These pieces of track must first be electrically sepa-
rated at both ends for this purpose. To do this, cut through
the metal connection between the left and right rails on
the underside of the tracks as shown in the illustrations on
Page 25.
The railroad grade crossing can be mounted in place with 4
screws (74990) for a permanent setup.
This railroad grade crossing can be expanded with the
74930 extension set to a 2-track arrangement.
