Read through the entire instructions before work is begun.
Items in illustrations in these instructions may differ from the
model being worked on. The illustrations are used for different
instructions and may therefore vary between engine models. The
essential information is correct.
NOTE! The hose connection interface is changed from National
Pipe Thread (NPT) fittings to O-Ring Boss/ORB fittings. This
change may make it necessary to use ADAPTER FITTINGS
should the ORB fittings provided not work in your application. For
installation using the ADAPTER FITTING refer to the installation
instructions in the Appendix 1 on the last page.

NOTE!
* 2 pcs ORB to female inverted flare fittings and 1 pce ORB to
hose barb fitting are included in the kit for hose.
Installation of the Steering pump ORB fittings
IMPORTANT! Do not use NPT fittings in back of 22381257
or 22381259 steering pumps. Doing so may lead to irreparable
damage to the steering pump, or may result in loss of fluid or
separation of components. See Fig. 2B for proper identification of
an ORB style steering pump.
1. Back off lock nut (item 1, Fig. A), counter-clockwise, until it
stops. NOTE! O-ring must be fully on sealing surface and cannot
contact any threads. Do not use Teflon sealing tape or any liquid
pipe sealant with ORB fittings.
2. Thread nipple into steering pump port until fitting washer (item
2, Fig. A) contacts the face of the pump port. Tighten hand tight
only – do not use a wrench.
3. Re-position fitting to desired orientation by turning it counter-
clockwise to a maximum of 1 full turn.
4. While holding the fitting body with a wrench, torque the lock
nut (item 1) to 24 Nm (18 lbf ft).
5. While holding the fitting body with a wrench, torque the hose
end nut to 22 Nm (16 lbf ft.).
Secure with wrench here
while tightening locknut.

I. Installation of the Steering pump with tilt - Fig 1A-B
IMPORTANT! The filler opening in the steering pump should al-
ways be directed upwards.
1. Choose the location of the steering pump and the
steering wheel adjuster. NOTE! Check that there is enough of
space in front of the panel and behind the panel for mounting of
the steering wheel, steering wheel adjuster, steering pump and
hose connections. For dimensions see fig 1A.
2. Mark and drill or cut the holes for the steering pump (5). Use
full size hole template 1C located at the end of these instructions.
3. Install the steering wheel adjuster (1) with screws (2), washers
(3) and lock nuts (4). Tighten the nuts. Tightening torque 12 Nm
(8.9 lbf ft).
IMPORTANT! Use only locknuts.
4. Install the cover (6) by holding it in position while installing
the cover (7) with the screws (8). NOTE! The decal on the cover
shows which side should be facing up.
5. Check that the steering wheel adjuster works properly. (Pres-
sing the lever B forward allows you to set the steering wheel in
5 different positions. The lever locks automatically when the ste-
ering wheel is in one of the 5 positions.)
6. Lubricate the tapered section (C) of the steering wheel adjus-
ter shaft with a good quality Marine grease.
7. Install the steering wheel with the woodruff key (9) and the
lock nut (10). Tighten the nut.
Tightening torque 17-22 Nm (12.5-16.2 lbf ft).
IMPORTANT! Secure the steering wheel to the shaft before fill-
ing and bleeding the steering system.
II. Installation of the Steering pump - Fig 2A-B
IMPORTANT! The filler opening in the steering pump should al-
ways be directed upwards.
1. Choose the location of the steering pump. NOTE! Check that
there is enough of space in front of the panel and behind the
panel for mounting of the steering wheel, steering pump and
hose connections. For dimensions see fig 2A.
2. Mark and drill or cut the holes for the steering pump (1). Use
full size hole template 2C located at the end of these instructions.
3. Install the steering pump (1) with washers (2) and lock nuts
(3). Tighten the nuts.
Tightening torque 12 Nm (8.9 lbf ft).
IMPORTANT! Use only locknuts.
4. Lubricate the tapered sesction (A) of the steering pump shaft
with a good quality Marine grease.
5. Install the steering wheel with the woodruff key (4) and the
lock nut (5). Tighten the nut.
Tightening torque 17-22 Nm (12.5-16.2 lbf ft).
III. Connection, filling and bleeding of the steering pump
IMPORTANT! Secure the steering wheel to the shaft before fill-
ing and bleeding the steering system.
For connection, filling and bleeding, see Installation Manual for
D4/D6 - DPH/DPR.
NOTE! If more than one steering position is installed: Keep
the uppermost bleeder screw on the steering pump. Replace all
the other bleeder screws by plugs.
Plugs are included in the connection kit (part # 889276, kit for up-
per helm station/flybridge) for the twin helm stations.
