Installation & maintenance information
To avoid electrical shock or electrocution, if any parts of the plug or receptacle appear to be
missing, broken or show signs of damage, DISCONTINUE USE IMMEDIATELY. Replace with
the proper replacement part(s) before continuing service.
To avoid electrical shock or electrocution, electrical power supply must be OFF before and
during installation and maintenance. Installation and maintenance procedure must be
performed by a trained and competent electrician.
EXPLOSION HAZARD
Do not connect/disconnect while energized.
EXPLOSION HAZARD
Set screws are an integral part of explosion protection and must be fully tightened while
products are in use.
APPLICATION
These connectors and receptacles are designed for distribution of 1000 volts AC or DC at up to
1030 amperes continuous duty in open air, or 125% overload surge for 15 minutes maximum. They
are not designed for interrupting current. DO NOT connect or disconnect while live. Turn power off
and lock out before making or breaking connections.
MALE CONNECTOR is used on power side of circuit. FEMALE CONNECTOR is used on machine
or motor side of circuit. Contacts are sized to match cable and must be ordered for specific
cable size. Refer to catalog for ordering information. Cable size determines maximum allowable
ampacity for circuit. See Table 1 below. Products are to only be used with copper Type P or
TC-er cable; cable range of 313-777 MCM.

ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
Contacts may be attached to cable by crimping or soldering. See Table 2 below for recommended
crimping dies and equipment.
A.
Cut cable to length.
B.
Remove cable jacket 1-7/8 inch.
C.
Crimp or solder contact to conductor. See Table 2 below for crimping tools. Make two (2)
crimps on undercut portions of contact. Crimp should be made with 12 ton minimum crimper.

Covers must be installed while not in use and must be protected while plug and receptacle are
mated to protect integrity of device.
To reduce the risk of ignition due to electrostatic discharge, avoid contact with the plug and
receptacle while explosive atmosphere is present. Clean only with damp cloth.
Connectors are to be shielded from exposure to UV light.
The maximum surface temperature measured on these connectors at full current and +55°C
ambient is +121°C.
ALIGN CONTACT DRIVE PINS WITH SLOTS ON REAR OF INSULATOR
D.
Insulator should be clamped to cable using a hose clamp to create a seal
and additional strain relief. The insulator may also be vulcanized to the
cable. (Refer to bulletin IF 1778 for vulcanizing procedure). Wrap layers
of neoprene tape over cable jacket to make tight seal when cable clamp is
tightened around insulator sleeve. Tighten hose clamp to 30 in.-lbs.
E.
Position contact as shown in Figure 2 by aligning the contact drive pins with
the slots on the rear of insulator. Push contact into insulator from cable end of
insulator. A lubricant such as CRC 02094 spray may be used to aid in assembly.
Push until pins on contact hit the internal ring inside of insulator, rotate insulator while
pushing against cable until pins align with U shaped openings in internal ring. Push until
retainer ring locks into internal ring inside of insulator. Pull back on cable to determine that
contact is locked into insulator. When properly seated, male contact will be recessed 1/4"
from front of insulator; female contact will be recessed 1/2" .
DO NOT ASSEMBLE CONNECTOR WITHOUT SPRING RETAINER RING IN PLACE ON
CONTACT. HOSE CLAMP DOES NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE RETENTION. DO NOT MOUNT
IN VERTICAL POSITION.
IF INSULATORS ARE TO BE MOLDED TO CABLE, DO NOT USE GREASE OR WIRE PULLING
COMPOUND, AS THIS PREVENTS VULCANIZING AND MAY CAUSE EXCESSIVE OXIDATION
IF LEFT ON CONTACT SURFACES.
MAINTENANCE
We recommend a maintenance program as described per maintenance sheet MS1880.
