1. HI & LO INPUTS
HI & LO input jack sockets are a feature
found on most classic amplifiers. The
HI input provides an extra 6dB of
sensitivity at the input, allowing you to
overdrive the preamp more easily. HI
and LO inputs also ensure maximum
flexibility with different pickup types,
configurations and, of course, personal
tonal preference.
2. GAIN
This control adjusts the amount of
overdrive created by the preamp. PULL
BODY adds 'girth' to your sound.

Tonal Note: The tonal effect of
BODY is achieved by a +8dB shelved
low frequency boost from 120Hz
downwards.
3. BOOST
The footswitchable BOOST control
increases the amount of gain by +20dB.
When BOOST is activated its LED will
light and glow amber.
Technical Note: When the footswitch is
connected it takes precedence over the
front panel BOOST toggle switch.

4. TREBLE
This controls the level of higher
frequencies. The PULL BRIGHTNESS
control provides a +6dB shelved high
frequency boost from 4 kHz upwards
when activated.
5. MIDDLE
This controls the level of middle range
frequencies.
6. BASS
This controls the level of the lower
frequencies.

7. EDGE
Unlike BASS, MIDDLE and TREBLE,
which are preamp functions, EDGE is
a power stage function. This means
that it makes the overall characteristic
sound of the amplifier brighter or darker,
depending where you set it.
Tonal Note 1: The EDGE control cuts
high frequencies between the phase
splitter and the power valves. This
has a function similar to a traditional
'presence' control. Most 'presence'
controls are based on the negative
feedback in the output stage – Astoria
Custom has no negative feedback in its
output stage.
