EASY MAINTENANCE
Monthly cleaning and regular maintenance may help extend the life of your cushion. During
cleaning, component inspection is recommended. Check the covers for tears and excessive wear.
To Clean Cover
Remove the cover from the base. Turn the cover inside out and machine wash in warm water and
drip or tumble dry on low heat. No ironing is required.
NOTE– Do not dry clean covers or use industrial washers and dryers to clean the cover. Do not
steam autoclave. Do not bleach.
After washing, fit cover back over cushion base and gel pad. Ensure the back of the cover match-
es up to the back of the foam base and gel pad assembly.
NOTE– If utilized in an institutional setting, write the resident's name with a permanent marker
on the content label of the covers. This will help to ensure the return of the covers after
washing.
Use only Jay-designed covers in conjunction with the J-Gel Cushion.
To Clean Foam Base
Remove the cover and gel pad from the foam base. Wipe with warm water and soap. Wipe off
with a clean cloth.
NOTE– Avoid submersion of the foam base in water.
Reinstall the gel pad, then fit cover back over foam base. Ensure the back of the cover matches
up to the back of the foam base and gel pad assembly.
To Clean Gel Pad Overlay
Remove the cover and gel pad from the foam base. Recommend use of a 1:10 solution of bleach
and water to clean the gel cube pad surfaces. You may also use any conventional hospital
approved topical equipment cleaners and disinfectants that do not contain alcohol. (Never clean
any surfaces of cushion with alcohol). Wipe off with a clean cloth. The gel overlay may also be
cleaned with warm water and soap. Autoclaving and gas sterilization are not recommended.
Always thoroughly rinse gel pad with clear water before placing back into service. This helps
eliminate the possibility of skin irritation due to cleaning solution residue.
Reassembling the J-Gel Cushion After Cleaning
Make sure cover, foam base and gel pad overlay are completely dry before reassembling. Orient
the front and back of each component per the labels on each, then attach the gel pad overlay
using the Velcro® strips as location indicators. The gel pad should fit symmetrically over the foam
base. Lastly, replace cover over entire assembly. Ensure the back of the cover matches up to the
back of the cushion/gel assembly.
