This manual must be translated (if necessary) by the distributor into the language of the country where the equipment is to be used. For your
safety, comply strictly with the instructions for use, verification, maintenance and storage.
KRATOS SAFETY cannot be held liable for any direct or indirect accident occurring following use other than that provided for in these
instructions; do not use this equipment beyond its limits!
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE AND PRECAUTIONS:
A retractable fall arrester is a type of personal protective equipment. It must be assigned to a single user (it can only be used by one person
at a time). When the user is moving (ascending/descending), the cable/webbing winds and unwinds around a pulley. The cable/webbing is
kept taut thanks to a counter spring. In the event of a fall, a system prevents the cable/webbing from unwinding, instantly stops the user from
falling further and starts to dissipate energy, at the same time the dissipating mechanism for the energy in the webbing placed at the end of
the retractable lanyard tears to absorb the energy generated by the fall.
KRATOS SAFETY retractable fall arrester FA 20 503 01 is designed for a use in a Mobile Elevating Working Platform (MEWP), equipped
with one or several anchorage points for the use of fall arrest systems on the working platform as per EN 280:2017 (R>3kN). The total
length of the equipment (between the harness attachment D-ring and the anchorage point of the working platform) must not exceed 1.80 m.
User safety relies on the effectiveness of the equipment and full understanding of the safety instructions contained in this leaflet. The
legibility of the product's markings must be checked regularly.
For safety reasons and before each use, make sure that, in case of a fall, there are no obstacles to prevent the normal movement of the cable
or the webbing.
The retractable lanyard on your device must not be extended (by adding a lanyard, connectors, or other components).
VERTICAL USE AS PER EN 360:
The device's anchoring point must be positioned above the user and must comply with standard EN 795 (R>12kN - EN795:2012 or R>10kN
- EN795:1996).
The swivel can be connected to either the anchoring point on the structure or to the attachment point on the harness using a connector
(EN362).
It is prohibited to use the device with edges, structures with small diameters and corrosion as this can affect the performance of the cable or
the webbing, unless these are adequately protected.
Check that the general position limits the pendulum movement in the event of a fall and that the work is done so as to limit the risk and height
of a fall. The maximum angle of inclination when used vertically must be: 40°.
When used in this way, the clearance must be at least: 2.5 m under the user's feet*
HORIZONTAL USE IS FORBIDDEN.
USE ON A MOBILE ELEVATING WORKING PLATFORM (NEAR A DOUBLE SHARP EDGE) AS PER DIN 19427:
KRATOS SAFETY retractable fall arrester FA 20 503 01 has passed the use test for double sharp edges with a radius of r>=0.5mm (in
accordance with DIN 19427:2016).
For this use, the device's anchorage point must be located at least 35 cm below the top edge of the railing rail of the MEWP. WARNING:
There is a risk of failure of the equipment (fall may not be arrested) and tipping over the MEWP if the anchor point is higher.
In order to minimize the risk of ejection, it is essential to opt for the shortest connection between the MEWP anchorage point and the harness
attachment D-ring.
When using the device near a double sharp edge, in order to ensure the safe working of the device, the top swivel must be connected to the
MEWP anchorage point, the energy dissipater placed on the retractable lanyard MUST be connected to the attachment point on the harness,
use in the opposite direction is PROHIBITED.
It is necessary to ensure that the connector connected to the anchorage point of the MEWP can swivel freely and that it is not subject to any
transverse stress or contact with an edge when the fall arrest system is used.
When used in this way, the clearance must be at least: 4.5 m under the top edge of railing rail of MEWP or 3,40 m under the user's feet*.
* : It is essential, for safety reason, to verify the clearance at the work place before each use and during use in order to be sure there will be
no collision with the ground or obstacle in case of fall. Take particular attention to obstacle in movement (for example truck, other mobile
work platform,...). It is vital to take into account the manufacturer's information regarding the influences of the movements of the MEWP
in case of use of the fall arrest system.
In case of fall, injuries due to impact on the platform or its boom cannot be excluded.
Use the product between: -30°C / 50°C.
It is advisable not to suddenly let go of the cable/webbing when the cable is unwound; it is better to assist with the rewinding process. Before
and during use, we recommend that you make the necessary arrangements for a safe rescue, should this be required.
This equipment must only be used by trained, competent and healthy persons, or under the supervision of a trained and competent person.
Warning! Certain medical conditions can affect user safety, if in doubt please contact your doctor.
Be aware of the hazards that could reduce the performance of your equipment, and therefore the user's safety, if exposed to extreme
temperatures (<-30°C or > 50°C), prolonged exposure to the elements (UV rays, humidity), chemical agents, electrical constraints, twisting
of the fall arrest system during use, sharp edges, friction or cutting, etc.
Before each use, check: that the locking system is working and that the fall indicator has not been activated (if installed on the connector).
Check that the absorber has not been activated. Check that the cable/webbing is not cut, frayed or burnt. Check that the metal parts are
not deformed or oxidised, and check that the connectors are working properly (locking/opening). The protective casings and the cover of
the energy dissipater must be in place and undamaged. Product markings must remain legible. If there is any doubt as to the condition of
the device, or after a fall, it must not be reused (marking it with the words "DO NOT USE" is recommended) and must be returned to the
