4 Production of duplicate models
4.1 Mixing of the investment compound
Premix powder and liquid in a clean mixing bowl of the evacuating unit. Then place the investment
under vacuum for a short time and mix under vacuum for 60 sec. For the production of investment
material models we recommend a concentration of the mixing liquid of 75 %.
4.2 Pouring up of the silicone duplicating mould
Silicone duplicating moulds can be poured up more easily if they have previously been wetted with
Waxit ® . The moulds must be blown dry before pouring in the investment. Let the investment material
flow into the duplicating mould while vibrating lightly; avoid the formation of bubbles during this
process. After the duplicating mould has been filled, switch off the vibrator immediately.
4.3 Pouring up of agar-agar duplicating moulds
If duplicating gel is used in combination with Optivest, it is recommended to place the master model
in luke-warm water for approx. 10 min prior to duplicating. Recommended concentration for the
investment material model: 50 %
4.4 Setting
The investment material should set for at least 30 min; then it is carefully removed from the duplicat-
ing mould. In order to prepare undercuts which result in an improved connection of model/coat, the
investment material model should be provided with oblique edges using the trimmer.
4.5 Drying
Dry the model in a drying cabinet which has been preheated to approximately 80 °C for approx.
40 min. Then apply adhesion agent to improve adhesion of the wax pattern.
4.6 Hardening
Optivest models which have been produced in conjunction with silicone duplicating moulds do not
have to be hardened. If the investment compound model has been produced with duplicating gel,
hardening with cold hardener is recommended. Please observe the respective instructions for use of
the corresponding product.
