Safety instructions

Before using the helmet, please read the user instructions. Check that the front
cover lens has been correctly fi tted. You must not continue welding if the welding
fi lter is non-functional.
Precautionary measures & safety restrictions
During the welding process, heat and radiation are released, which can cause
damage to the eyes and skin. This product offers protection for the eyes and face.
When wearing the helmet, your eyes are always protected against ultraviolet and
infrared radiation, regardless of the shade level. To protect the rest of your body,
appropriate protective clothing must also be worn. In some circumstances, particles
and substances released by the welding process can trigger allergic skin reactions
in correspondingly predisposed persons. Materials that come into contact with skin
may cause allergic reactions to susceptible persons.
The protective welding helmet must only be used for welding and grinding and not
for other applications. Optrel assumes no liability when the welding helmet is used
for purposes other than intended or with disregard for the operating instructions.
The helmet is suitable for all established welding procedures, excluding gas and
laser welding. Please note the recommended protection level in accordance with
EN169 on the cover.
Standby mode
The welding fi lter has an automatic switch-off function, which increases the service
life of the product. If no light falls upon the solar cells for a period of approx. 15 min.,
the welding fi lter automatically switches itself off. To reactivate the fi lter, the solar
cells must be briefl y exposed to daylight.
If the welding fi lter no longer activates or darkens when the welding arc ignites, it
must be regarded as non-functional and replaced.
Warranty & liability
Please take the warranty conditions from the directives of the national Optrel
sales organisation. Please contact your Optrel dealer for further information in this
connection.
Warranties are granted for material and manufacturing defects only. In the case
of damage caused by improper use, unauthorised interventions or the use of the
helmet for a purpose other than that intended by the manufacturer, the warranty and
liability are no longer valid. Likewise, liability and the warranty are no longer valid if
spare parts other than those sold by Optrel are used.
Use
1. Head band. Adjust upper band (1) to your head size. Depress ratchet knob (2)
and turn until the head band sits fi rmly yet comfortably.
2. Eye distance and inclination. The distance between the welding fi lter and
the eyes can be optimally adjusted by loosening the locking knobs (3). The
setting should be identical on both sides to exclude tilting. After this adjustment,
retighten the locking knobs.
The helmet inclination can be adjusted via knob (4).
3. Shade level. By turning knob (5), you can select a shade level between DIN 9
and DIN 13.
4. Sensor bar. The installed sensor bar (6) reduces the sensor aperture and thus
the external fi eld infl uence. The sensor bar can be removed using your fi nger
nail.
5. Delay switch. The delay switch (7) allows you to select the reaction time of the
fi lter when it changes from dark to bright. "Fast" stands for a delay of 0.1-0.35s
and is recommended for short welding processes. If "slow" can be seen, the
delay is increased to > 0.8s. This setting should be used for long welding
processes and pulse techniques.
Cleaning
The cartridge and the front cover lens must be cleaned regularly using a soft cloth. No
strong cleaning agents, alcohol or abrasive cleaning agents may be used. Scratched
or damaged lenses must be replaced.

Storage
The welding helmet must be stored at room temperature and low humidity.
Changing the front cover lens
Hold front lens frame at bottom edge and pull up (8). Insert front cover lens into frame
and snap in the front lens frame (9). Press fi rmly into place.
Installing/removing welding fi lter
1. Pull shade level knob (10)
2. Turn bracket knobs and therefore unlock cartridge (11)
3. Tilt cartridge out of place (11)
The installation of the welding fi lter is carried out in the reverse order.
Troubleshooting
Welding fi lter does not darken
→ Clean sensors or front cover lens
→ Check the light fl ow to the sensor
Poor vision
→ Clean front cover lens or fi lter
→ Increase ambient light
Welding helmet slips
→ Readjust/adjust head band
