WARNING - SAFETY RULES

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

The instructions in the TITANIUM 400 AC/DC manual (ref. 013568) must be read and understood
before any demagnetisation operation (DEGAUSS).
Any modification or updates that are not specified in the instruction's manual should not be undertaken. The manufacturer
is not liable for any injury or damage due to a non-compliance with the instructions featured in this manual. In the event
of problems or uncertainties, please consult a qualified person to handle the installation properly.

ELECTRO-MAGNETIC EMISSIONS

The electric current flowing through any conductor causes electrical and magnetic fields (EMF).
The demagnetising current produces an electromagnetic field around the cables and the part to be
demagnetised.
The EMF electromagnetic fields can interfere with certain medical implants, such as pacemakers. Protective measures
must be taken for people having medical implants. For example, by restricting access to passers-by or conducting an
individual risk evaluation for the welders. All users must take the following precautions in order to minimise exposure
to the electromagnetic fields (EMF) generated by the demagnetising circuit:
• position the demagnetising cables together - if possible, attach them;.
• position yourself (torso and head) as far away as possible from the assembly in place.
• never wrap the cables around the body.
• do not position the body between the welding cables.
• do not work next to the welding power source, do not sit or lean on it.
People wearing pacemakers are advised to consult their doctor before using this device. Exposure to
electromagnetic fields during welding can have other health effects that are not yet known.
PROTECTION AGAINST ELECTRO-MAGNETIC FORCES
The electromagnetic field created during the demagnetisation operations of the parts to be welded
exerts driving forces on the metal objects surrounding the work area (e.g. tools, metal parts, screws
....). Remove all unsecured objects in the vicinity of the work area to prevent them from moving
towards the workpiece being demagnetised, which could cause a risk of injury. Also, personal objects
such as pacemakers, watches and mobile phones will be sensitive to these forces and will cause
failures if they are too close together.
INSTALLATION – PRODUCT OPERATION
Only qualified personnel authorised by the manufacturer should perform the installation of the welding
equipment. During the installation, the operator must ensure that the machine is disconnected from the
mains.
DEGAUSS - PROCESS DESCRIPTION
The internal magnetism or magnetic induction of the workpieces to be welded disturbs the electric arc during welding.
This value is expressed in milli-tesla (mT): a low magnetic induction value (< 1-2mT in TIG and 4mT in MIG-MAG) will
have no impact on welding, a medium value (< 5mT in TIG and 8mT in MIG-MAG) will make welding uncomfortable and
will require checks to ensure the quality of the weld bead, or even touch-ups. Finally, a higher value will make welding
impossible because the arc will be deflected and unstable causing welding defects. In the latter case, it is necessary
either to change the welding process, such as coated electrode welding with alternating current (MMA AC) to make the
arc stable, or to demagnetise the workpieces to be welded.
