2.1 Theory of Operation

The Tau controller is designed as a low cost, minimum feature, introductory, transducerized DC
tool controller. It will control any QPM EC model series tool. It does not control E or EA model
series tools. A modified Torque Control / Angle Monitor (TC/AM) strategy is the only strategy
supported in either Job. The two Jobs turn into a one-job, two-step tool strategy when
synchronization is used.
The Tau's TC/AM strategy uses the Minimum Angle limit to detect cross-threads and double hits.
There is no High Angle Limit.

2.1.1 Data Collection and Storage

The Tau does not store any data such as fastening cycle results or traces. There is no data created,
therefore no data can be retrieved even with the Controller Gateway software connected.

2.1.2 Entrada y salida Functions

The Tau does not perform any Bolt Count or Error Proofing functions. However, its four inputs
and four outputs support these functions by external devices such as a PLC.
The inputs and outputs are NOT assignable, they are fixed. However, the Latch Start Input and the
OK and NOK Output Types have a timing configuration.
The outputs have two pins assigned to them; one for the Normally Open contact and another for
the Normally Closed contact.

2.2 Software

The Controller Gateway connects to the Tau for service related items such as firmware upgrades
of the tool or controller and tool configuration changes.
