I
GENERAL PROVISIONS
1
National technical approval certifies that the object of approval can be used and/or
employed within the meaning of the German state building codes.
2
To the extent that the national technical approval has placed requirements in terms of
special knowledge and experience on the persons entrusted with the manufacture of
constructed products and types pursuant to § 17 Para. 5 of the Sample Building Code of
the corresponding state regulations, it should be noted that this specialist knowledge and
experience can be attested by equivalent documentation issued by other Member States
of the European Union. This also applies to attestations provided within the context of the
Treaty establishing the European Economic Community (EEC) or other bilateral
agreements, if applicable.
3
National technical approval does not replace the permits, approvals and certifications
required by law in connection with the realisation of building proposals.

particularly in respect of private property rights.
5
Without prejudice to more extensive regulations contained in the "Special Provisions", the

SPECIAL PROVISIONS
1
Object of approval and scope of application
(1) This national technical approval relates to stationary square containment units made
of fibreglass-reinforced unsaturated polyester resin or vinylester resin in accordance with
Annex 1. The containment units can be fitted with a grid as a bearing surface. The grids
are either inserted in the side walls of the containment unit resting on a plug-in bearing
rail, or, if the containment unit has reinforced edges, laid on the supporting surface
running around the unit. Containment units with reinforced edges have connecting
profiles which allow them to be put together to cover larger areas.
(2) The designation, main dimensions and corresponding containment volumes are
compiled in Annex 1.
(3) The containment units may be positioned in buildings and in the open air, but not in
zone 0 and 1 areas with a risk of explosion. They must be protected against vehicle
impact, e.g. by installing in a protected place or using collision guards. In areas subject to
earthquakes in earthquake zones 1 to 3 as per DIN 4149
adequately secured in their positions.
(4) When installing in the open air, the containment units must be protected against
storms and sufficiently covered to protect against precipitation.
(5) The containment units can be used in the storage of liquids hazardous to water, with
a flash point above 55 °C, in containers and vessels.
(6) Liquids conforming to media lists 40-2.1.1 and 40-2.1.2
allocated to the following named groups do not require any special proof of the leak-
tightness and resistance of the GRP-material of the containment unit:
a)
Aqueous organic acid solutions up to 10%
b)
Organic acids (carboxylic acids) with the exception of formic acid > 10%
c)
Mineral acids up to 20% as well as acidic hydrolytic salts in aqueous solution
(pH < 6), except for oxidising acids and their salts, and hydrofluoric acid
d)
Inorganic bases as well as alkaline hydrolytic salts in aqueous solutions (pH > 8),
with the exception of ammonia solutions and oxidising salt solutions (e.g.
hypochlorite)
e)
Solutions of inorganic non-oxidising salts with a pH-value between 6 and 8
f)
Heating oil EL in accordance with DIN 51603
4
DIN EN 590
as well as used and unused engine and gear oils
(7) When storing media governed by the Hazardous Materials Act, TRGS 510
observed.
(8) National technical approval is granted without prejudice to inspection or approval
provisos from other areas of law.
