Self-propulsion is switched off and the
lawn mower comes to a standstill. The
engine and blade continue to run.
12. Maintenance
Risk of injury!
Carefully read the section "For your
safety" (
4.), particularly the
subsection "Maintenance and
repairs" (
4.7), and follow all
safety instructions exactly before
performing any maintenance or
cleaning operations on the
machine.
Allow the machine to
cool and detach the
spark plug socket before
performing any
maintenance or cleaning
operations.
Annual service by the specialist dealer:
The lawn mower should be inspected once
annually by a specialist dealer. VIKING
recommends VIKING specialist dealers.
12.1 Cleaning the machine
Maintenance interval:
After each use.
Risk of injury!
Stop the engine, allow the machine
to cool and detach the spark plug
socket.
Placing machine in service position
Clean the lawn mower in the
described position only. This
ensures that no fuel or engine oil
can escape.

● Before cleaning, check whether the
tank cap and oil cap are properly
attached.
● Set the cutting height
adjustment lever to the
highest position (1).
(
8.5)
● Loosen handlebar screw
fastening/quick clamping device (2)
and fold down upper handlebar (3) to
the rear.
● Lift up the machine at the front and
place in the service position as shown.
● First, remove accumulated clipping
deposits in the housing using a stick.
● Clean the entire machine, especially
the mowing blade and engine, using
little water, with a brush or with a cloth.
Never spray water (high-pressure
cleaner) onto engine components,
seals and bearing points, never use
aggressive cleaning agents.
12.2 Checking blade wear
Risk of injury!
Blades are subjected to differing
degrees of wear depending on the
location and duration of use. If you
18
use the machine on sandy ground
or use it frequently under dry
conditions, the blade will be
subjected to greater loads and will
wear more quickly than the
average.
A worn blade may break off and
cause serious injuries. The
instructions for blade maintenance
must therefore always be
observed.
Maintenance interval:
Before each use.
Checking procedure
● Place the machine in the service
position. (
12.1)
● Clean mowing blade (1).
● Use slide calliper (2) to measure blade
thickness (A) at several points.
● Measure permissible grinding (B).
Place ruler (3) against the front blade
edge as shown for this purpose.
Wear limits
Blade thickness (A):
> 2,5 mm
Permissible grinding (B):
< 5 mm
The blade must be replaced if the
measured values are achieved at one or
more points or are outside the permissible
limits.
12.3 Sharpening the mowing blade
19
If you do not have the necessary expertise
or auxiliary equipment, you should have
the blade sharpened by a specialist dealer
(VIKING recommends VIKING specialist
dealers). Operation of the machine is
impaired in the case of an incorrectly
sharpened mowing blade (incorrect
sharpening angle, imbalance, etc.).
Sharpening instructions
● Remove the mowing blade. (
● Cool the mowing blade during
sharpening, e.g. with water.
The blade must not be allowed to
display blue colouring, as this would
reduce its cutting quality.
