ADJUSTING THE ANGLE OF THE BLADE
1. Hold the angle adjustment handle (Fig. 10) with the left hand.
Hold the shaft housing (Fig. 10) with the right hand.
2. With the right thumb, push the adjustment lever (Fig. 10) away
from the indexing ring to unseat the locking pin (Fig. 10).
3. Keep pushing the adjustment lever and rotate the blade to the
desired position using the angle adjustment handle.
4. Align the locking pin with the desired indexing hole in the
indexing ring (Fig. 10).
5. Push the adjustment lever toward the indexing ring to seat the
locking pin in the indexing hole and secure the blade in the
desired position.
WARNING:
To avoid serious personal injury, always stop
the engine and allow it to cool before cleaning or maintaining
the unit. Never perform cleaning or maintenance while the
unit is running. Disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent
the unit from starting accidentally.

LUBRICATING THE BLADES
For easier operation and longer blade life, lubricate the blades
BEFORE and AFTER each use. Never lubricate the blades while the
engine is running or the blades are moving.
1. Stop the engine. Wait for all moving parts to stop. Allow the unit
to cool. For gas-powered units, disconnect the spark plug wire
to prevent the unit from starting accidentally. For electric-
powered units, disconnect the unit from the power source to
prevent the unit from starting accidentally. For battery-powered
units, remove the battery to prevent the unit from starting
accidentally.
2. Apply a light machine oil along the edge of the top blade (Fig. 11).
Apply oil along the full length of the blade.

MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
Perform these required maintenance procedures at the frequency
stated in the table. These procedures should also be a part of any
seasonal tune-up.
NOTE: Some maintenance procedures may require special tools or
skills. If you are unsure about these procedures, take the unit to
an MTD authorized service dealer.
NOTE: Maintenance, replacement, or repair of the emission control
devices and system may be performed by an MTD authorized
service dealer.
NOTE: Please read the California/EPA statement that came with the
unit for a complete listing of terms and coverage for the emissions
control devices, such as the spark arrestor, muffler, carburetor, etc.
