HARBOUR TUG BOAT
Wenn Frachtschiffe nach Tausenden von Seemeilen den
Zielhafen anlaufen, liegt immer noch ein schwieriger
Abschnitt vor ihnen. Hier kommen die Hafenschlepp -
boote ins Spiel, die das Kommando übernehmen und
die riesigen Schiffe sicher zur Anlegestelle ziehen. Die
Schleppboote nehmen keine Ladung auf, sondern die-
nen dem Verholen und Bugsieren grosser Tanker und
Frachtschiffe. Die kleinen, robusten, aber sehr wendi-
gen Schiffe verfügen über eine sehr starke Maschine
von 250 bis zu mehreren Tausend PS. Ihre Kommando -
brücken sind als hohe Aufbauten angelegt, um, ihrer
Aufgabe entsprechend, eine gute Rundumsicht für die
sichere Führung durch das enge Hafengebiet zu garan-
tieren. Heck, Bug und Bordwände sind meist verstärkt
und zusätzlich mit Flechtwerk ausgestattet.

HARBOUR TUG BOAT
When cargo vessels come into harbour having covered
thousand of sea miles, they still have a difficult stretch
ahead of them. This is where the harbour tug boats
come into their own, take over command and tow these
gigantic ships safely alongside the quay. The tug boats
do not carry any cargo, but serve to tow large tankers
and cargo vessels. These small, robust but very manoe-
uverable boats have very powerful engines developing
from 250 to thousands of horsepower. The bridge is
designed as a high superstructure to give them a good
panoramic view, that will enable them to do their job
properly and guarantee a safe passage through the con-
finde space of the harbour. The bow, stern and side
walls are usually reinforced and equipped with additio-
nal protective matting.
