7 Solving problems
7.1 Before you return the appliance
Before you contact out customer service department or returning the appliance to the Dirt Devil cus-
tomer service department, use the following table to check whether you can solve the problem your-
self.
WARNING:
Switch off the appliance before you start troubleshooting.
Never use a faulty appliance or a faulty charger.
Problem
The appliance will not
switch on.
The appliance suddenly
stops vacuuming.
The appliance switches
on but hardly picks up any
dirt.
The brush roller of the
stick vac is switched on
(On/Off button in position
"II") but is not rotating.

Possible cause / solution
The battery is flat, Zchapter 3.2, "Charging the rechargeable bat-
tery".

The rechargeable battery has become hot. Switch off the appliance
and wait 30 minutes. You can then continue vacuum cleaning.
The motor has overheated. As a result, the integrated thermostat
has been triggered. Switch off the appliance. During the subse-
quent cooling down phase of at least 45 minutes, it is recommend-
able to empty the dust bin (Zchapter 6.1, "Emptying the dust bin")
and to dry clean the insides. You can then continue vacuum clean-
ing.
If you are vacuum cleaning on carpet, switch the brush roller on,
Zchapter 4, "Using the appliance as a stick vac".
The dust bin is full. Empty the dust bin, Zchapter 6.1, "Emptying
the dust bin".
The motor filter is soiled. Empty the dust bin and clean the motor
filter, Zchapter 6.2, "Cleaning dust bin and filter components".
The brush roller is blocked by soiling. Clean the brush roller as de-
scribed, Zchapter 6.3, "Cleaning the brush roller".
