3. SELECTION OF A PUMP

1) Pump specifications
Pump selection should be based on:
•
Required flow and pressure in the allowable working range.
•
Head losses due to head.
•
Pressure losses due to connections, length of piping, elbows, valves, etc.
•
The point of maximum efficiency should coincide with the duty point.
2) Pump efficiency
If the pump is expected to work always at the same duty point, then select a pump whose operation at
the duty point achieves maximum efficiency.
If you expect to vary the duty and consumption, select a pump whose point of maximum efficiency
coincides with the range of highest energy consumption.
3) Pump materials
The choice of materials should be based on the fluid to be pumped (INOX 304 or INOX 316).
4) Minimum suction pressure - NPSH
It is recommended to calculate the suction pressure "H" when:
•
The temperature of the liquid is high.
•
The flow rate is significantly higher than the nominal flow rate.
•
The water is at great depth.
•
If the suction conditions are poor, to avoid cavitation, make sure that there is a minimum suction
pressure at the pump suction.
4. INSTALLATION
1) When installing the piping make sure that the pump casing does not withstand external pressure
from the piping.
2) The motor must never be mounted below the pump.
3) The pump should be mounted horizontally on a flat base.
4) For inspection and maintenance, and for proper ventilation, there should be at least 0.3m clearance
behind the motor.
5) The inlet diameter to the pump must not be smaller than the specified size.
