1. Ideally, utensils used in a microwave oven must be made from a microwave-safe material that
allows the energy to pass through so as to cook the food.
2. Microwaves do not penetrate metal, which is why metal utensils or crockery with metal
decorations cannot be used inside a microwave oven.
3. Do not use recycled paper or cardboard inside a microwave oven, as they may contain
fragments of metal, which may cause sparks or fire.
4. It is recommended to use round or oval dishes as opposed to rectangular or squared dishes, as
these may cause food to overcook in corners.

5.2 Basic operation
