1. Follow sterile technique to open the ICP sensor sterile package
and place the contents on a sterile surface.
2. To attach the ICP sensor to the extension cable and then
connect the cable to the DirectLink module, follow Steps 2.1
through 2.3:
2.1.
Pass the connector of the ICP sensor out of the sterile
field and connect it to the ICP sensor extension cable.
2.2.
To connect the other end of the extension cable to the
DirectLink Module, hold the module with its front panel
facing up. Align the extension cable connector so that
the "fin" of the strain relief points downward. Align the
connector to the signal input receptacle on the module,
marked with the symbol
CAUTION: Align the "fin" of the strain relief of the
extension cable with the receptacle on the module
as outlined in Step 2.2 before pushing these parts
together. DO NOT twist the connector after pushing
it in part way. Twisting the connector in this manner
will damage the pins and can lead to product
malfunction.
2.3.
Firmly push the cable connector into the receptacle until
it locks into place.
3. Follow the manual packaged with the sensor as well as the
manual for the DirectLink Module to zero the sensor.
Discontinue Monitoring/Removing Extension Cable
1. To disconnect the extension cable from the DirectLink Module,
grasp the connector housing and gently pull backwards
towards the strain relief to release the mechanical lock. The
cable should pull out of the connector freely, as shown in Detail
"I" in Figure 1. Disconnect the cable from the ICP sensor.
Explant the sensor from the patient.
2. Wipe down the extension cable with one of the following
methods:
Combination wipes (Quaternary Ammonium/Isopropyl
Alcohol)
70% isopropyl alcohol
CAUTION: Do not immerse the cable in any liquid or allow
liquid to enter the connector.
3. Visually inspect the extension cable for the following:
Cable insulation is intact and that no cracks are visible
Connectors are undamaged; connector pins are not bent
If the cable shows these or any other problems that might
affect function, do not use the cable. Contact your Integra
representative for a replacement.
4. If required by hospital procedures, sterilize the extension cable
(see Sterilization).
Sterilization
CAUTION: Remove the bed clip from the cable prior to
sterilization. Retain for future use. The bed clip cannot
