Microscope Instructions
1
Your microscope comes completely assembled but you
will need to insert two AA batteries in order to use the
built-in illuminator. Start by removing the three Phillips
head screws under the bottom plate. Pull the plate
off the base of the microscope. Insert batteries into
the battery holder making sure to insert them in the
correct polarity. Replace the base plate and screws.
4
Illuminate the slide by using the mirror to refl ect light
from a lamp or other light source into the microscope
or by rotating the light bulb assembly upwards until it
turns on. Aim the light source by tilting the mirror/light
assembly until the view in the eyepiece is evenly lit.
Note: When using the mirror, always use an artifi cial light
source. Never use direct sunlight or damage to the microscope
and your eye may occur.
7
To increase magnification, turn the focuser so
that the eyepiece is raised to its fullest height,
then rotate the turret until 450x is shown in the
magnification window. Focus again by moving
the microscope downward slowly until focus is
achieved. Repeat this procedure for 900x.
10
Cut a small piece of the specimen and lay it on the
eyedropper, place a small drop of distilled water onto
the specimen and then add a cover slip on top of the
specimen. The water will hold the cover slip in place.
When you are done you can wash the slide and
cover for re-use.
2
To use your microscope, remove the eyepiece lens
cap and turn the focuser so that the eyepiece is
raised to its fullest height.
5
Rotate the objective lens turret until 150x appears
in the magnifi cation window. The turret will click
into place when it is aligned correctly.
8
Your microscope comes with a spare light bulb for your
illuminator. To change the bulb, remove the batteries
and turn the illuminator so you can access the light
bulb. Turn the ring around the light bulb 1/8th of a turn
counterclockwise to unlock the ring. Lift the ring
upward to expose the bulb. Replace the bulb and replace
the ring by pushing it toward the body of the illuminator
and turning it clockwise to lock it in place.
3
Insert a prepared slide into the clips on the
microscope stage.
150x
6
Look through the eyepiece and turn the focusing
knob slowly to lower the objective lens toward
the slide until you can achieve a sharp focus. Be
careful not to move the microscope down too far
so that the objective lens makes contact with
the slide or damage to the slide or microscope
may occur.
9
Your microscope comes with tools to help you
create your own slides. Try using flower petals,
blades of grass, onion skin, or even pond water.
Notes
+
Never attempt to view the sun through any telescope
without a proper solar filter. Permanent and irreversible
eye damage may result.
+
Always remove slides from the microscope when not in use.
+
Replace the eyepiece lens cap when not in use.
+
If the microscope is not going to be used for some time,
remove the batteries.
