1) Lay out the Back-Top (A), Back-Middle (B), Back-Bottom (C), and Back Stretcher (D) in their approxi-

pieces are near the top of the back leg and the shorter pieces near the bottom. See FIGURE 1.
Spread glue evenly in the three slotted holes and the one round hole in the side of each Back Leg
(E & F). Starting at the top of one back leg, insert the Back-Top (A), Back-Middle (B), Back-Bottom
(C), and Back Stretcher (D). Now insert the back pieces in the other back leg. It is important that all
the back pieces (A, B & C) are fi rmly and completely seated in both back legs and their shoulders

2) To hold the back leg assembly together while the glue dries, use a
piece of rope approximately fi ve feet long. Wrap the rope loosely
around the back assembly near the center of the back legs (protect
the back legs with cardboard or cloth) and tie the ends in a square
knot. Loop the rope around a dowel or screwdriver and twist until
tight. Tie down as shown in FIGURE 2. Leave rope in place at least
one hour.
Insert a #8 x 1¼" Pan Head Screw (O) through the holes in the outside edge of each back leg into
the Back-Top and fasten securely. See FIGURE 2.
