CAUTION
When exposed to air moisture, the chemicals in the oxygen self-
rescuer can create an aggressive basic solution, so used or opened
oxygen self-rescuers are to be professionally disposed of within
one week.
How to Dispose of the Oxygen Self-Rescuer On Your
Own
WARNING
Danger of Fire!
Keep the oxygen self-rescuer away from combustible substances
(petrol, grease, solvents, etc.).
•
Use protective goggles and gloves!
•
Remove the starter from the housing and have it disposed of
according to local regulations.
•
Remove the KO
cartridge from the housing and submerge it in a

great quantity of water until no more bubbles rise to the surface.
Neutralise the resulting solution with a 3 % acid, such as hydro-
chloric acid (HCl), in a ratio of 1:1.
•
All plastics are marked and must be collected, separated by type
and recycled.

You
Oxygen self-rescuers are subject to international transport regula-
tions during transport. They are oxygen breathing apparatus and are
classed under
UN 3356 "Oxygen generator, chemical" Class 5.1, packing group II
Prepare damaged, opened, used up or expired oxygen self-rescuers
as follows:
•
For opened or damaged oxygen self-rescuers with starters, trig-
ger the starter before the transport. For unopened devices, the
starter need not be triggered.
•
Put the oxygen self-rescuer into a hermetically sealed foil pouch,
then put the pouch into an approved package (e.g. Dräger Trans-
port Package Dräger Oxy 3000): 63 05 202, Dräger Oxy 6000:
63 06 202).
The shipping good is classed under:
UN 3085, Oxidizing solid, corrosive, n.o.s. (Potassium Super-
oxide, Potassium Hydroxide), Class 5.1, packing group I
•
