Sandwiching The Plates
To feed a die through the Gemini™ II, you must first sandwich it between the included plates and
shims. When cutting with Metal Dies, the White Cutting Plates should always be the top and
bottom plates of this sandwich. These are the only two plates which should ever touch the rollers
inside the machine. The combination used between the cutting plates can be changed according
to your project.
The standard starting combination from bottom to top, is as follows:
Top
Bottom
This combination is suitable for most thin metal dies. Thicker metal dies (such as Crafter's
Companion™ Multi-Media Dies, or other brands of deep-dish dies) will need a different
configuration (see page 8). Our suggestion is that you always start with this sandwich when using
a new style or brand of thin metal die. Then, if you require more or less pressure, you can adjust
your sandwich accordingly. The Metal Shim however, should only be used with a very intricate die
or when cutting fabric. Always try without the Metal Shim first.
NOTE: As long as the cutting blade of your die faces the material to be cut and either the
Metal Shim or White Cutting Plate, the sandwich configuration can be varied.
NOTE: Because of the high level of pressure exerted by the machine, the cutting plates will
naturally bow over time. This does not affect the performance of the plates or the machine,
but you can reduce any bowing by rotating and flipping the plates between each pass. Over
time and with general wear and tear, plates may need to be replaced. These are readily
available to purchase at www.crafterscompanion.com.
