11. FAILURE DIAGNOSTICS

Many times what, at first, seems to be a defect can be solved by you without the need of SCHULZ AUTHORIZED
DEALER assistance. If the problem persists after performing the corrective actions below, contact the nearest
SCHULZ AUTHORIZED DEALER.
PROBLEM
Motor does not
start or does not restart.
Obs.: Do not insist
on starting the motor.
Do it only after you
have discovered and
eliminated the cause
of the problem.
Compressor doesn't start.
Electric motor and
electric wire overheats
Tank pressure increases rapidly
or starts too frequent (Normal
number of starts is roughly 6 an
hour - compressors with
pressure switch).
Compressor unit overheats
POSSIBLE CAUSE
Voltage drop or electrical supply
is out.
Damaged electric motor.
Loose flywheel/motor pulley
and pulley cover.
Check valve does not seal
because of impurities
Overload relay went off (threephase)
in the pressure switch
with black button or relay FT1.
Tank is full of air/water.
Pressure switch's mechanism
is actuated or worn.
Deficient or inadequate
electrical supply.
Excess water in the tank.
High ambient temperature (máx 40°C or
104°F)
Incorrect speed direction.
Demand is above the
compressor's capacity
Filter element clogged.
*Wrong oil or low oil level.
Carbonized valve plate.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION
Check the installation and/or wait for
the electrical supply stabilization.
Send it to a Schulz Authorized Dealer
Re-fasten it, see item 3C, chapther -
PREVENTIVE MAINTENENCE
Send the compressor to the nearest
Schulz Authorized Dealer
Please wait 5 minutes for reset.
Electric motor will start as soon as the
pressure/volumen in the tank decreases.
Depressurize the tank until the
switch's minimum restart pressure.
If this doesn't work, schedule a visit with a
SCHULZ AUTHORIZED DEALER
Have a specialized technician check it
Drain the tank through the purger.
For your comfort, Schulz Compressores S.A.
provides an electronic purger, model PS 16,
which is adaptable to the tank's drain con-
nection (drain) and that can be purchased
at a Schulz Authorized Dealer.
Improve local conditions. Install an appro-
priate exhaust system (Figure 6.10)

Check the compressor's capacity
Replace it.
Change oil (see table 8.3) or verify
the level and replace it.
Clean it every 1000 working hours or
9 months at your nearest Schulz
Authorized Dealer
