OPERATION OF A MICROWAVE OVEN
Microwave ovens use a component called a magnetron, which operates on high voltage
and produces high-frequency electromagnetic waves (microwaves). These waves are
emitted into the oven through some openings and are distributed evenly throughout the
oven, since they are reflected on the walls of the oven, which, being metallic, cannot be
crossed. Inside the oven, the turntable ensures that food cooks evenly. Electromagnetic
waves (microwaves) penetrate through the surface of food causing heat, raising the
temperature as the heat disperses into the interior of the food.
One of the advantages that the microwave oven has over traditional electric or gas
ovens and stoves is that the heat is generated inside the food itself. Therefore, there are
no energy losses in the interior walls of the oven or in the cooking containers (glass,
porcelain, etc.), since these are not affected by the action of electromagnetic waves
(microwaves), although being in contact with food, they normally become hot
