4. AEROSOL THERAPY UNITS
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Before each use, the nebuliser and the accessories
should be cleaned according to the instructions in
the section "RAPIDFLAEM 6 ACCESSORIES
CLEANING AND DISINFECTION".
1. Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet
corresponding to the voltage of the unit.
2. Carefully wash your hands before going ahead with
inhalation therapy.
3. Open the nebuliser by turning the upper part (9c)
anticlockwise.
4. Pour the drug prescribed by the physician into the
lower part (9a). Close the nebuliser by turning the
upper part (9c) clockwise.
5. Connect the accessories as shown in the "Assembly
diagram" (fig. 1).
6. Sit comfortably, holding the nebuliser in your hands,
place the mouthpiece over your mouth or use the
nasal prong or mask. Start the unit by means of
switch (3).
Cover the hole of the nebulisation manual control
(8) with your finger and breathe smoothly and deeply;
after inspiration we recommend to hold your breath for a moment in order to allow inhaled aerosol droplets
to deposit ; whilst holding your breath remove the finger from the hole of the nebulisation manual control
(8) to optimise drug intake. Breathe out slowly.
To obtain continuous nebulisation, do not fit the nebulisation manual control (8), especially in the
case of children or invalids.
7. When the treatment is finished, turn off and unplug the unit.
8. It may happen that during the use of the nebuliser visible humidity deposits form in the connection tube
(7), disconnect the tube from the nebuliser and let it dry using the compressor air flow.
5. RAPIDFLAEM 6 ACCESSORIES CLEANING AND DISINFECTION
Before undertaking any cleaning operation, switch off and unplug the unit.
Accessories
• Cleaning: Wash under running water with mild (non abrasive) washing-up liquid or in the dishwasher, after
disassembling all the parts coming into contact with the medication. Clean the nozzle (9b.) after detaching
it from the upper part (9c.) of the nebuliser and disassembling as shown in fig. 1a.
• Disinfection: All accessories (except for the connecting tube) can be disinfected or sterilised choosing
one of these methods: a) by soaking in a solution of water and vinegar (three parts water and one part
vinegar). Finally, rinse thoroughly with drinking water; b) by boiling in a bain-marie (for max 10 min.); this
method cannot be used for the tube and the mask.
• Sterilisation: Sterilise all parts used with the medication with cold chemical sterilisers (peracetic acid
based; follow the manufacturer's instructions), or (except for the tube and the mask) in an autoclave at
121°C, carefully following the instructions provided by the autoclave manufacturer.
• Drying: Place the various parts on a clean paper towel and leave them to air-dry in a non-humid place
or dry them with a hair dryer. Reassemble the nozzle and fit it back in place on the nebuliser as shown in
the "Assembly diagram" (fig. 1).
When used very frequently, we recommend that the nebuliser be replaced every 6 months (or earlier if it
becomes clogged) in order to guarantee the maximum therapeutic effect.
Unit and exterior of the tube
To clean use only a damp cloth and an antibacterial detergent (non-abrasive and solvent free).
6. AIR FILTERING
The unit is equipped with an air filter (4) which should be replaced when dirty
or when its colour changes. Do not wash or re-use the used filter.
Using the unit with a dirty filter may prevent it from working properly and result
in damage that is not covered by the warranty.
The filter must be regularly replaced to help ensure efficient compressor
performance. The filter should be regularly checked. For spare filters contact
your dealer or an authorised service centre. Use only Flaem original accessories.
To replace the filter:
Insert a flat screwdriver between the filter edge and the unit body. Lift the filter and remove it by rotating
and pulling it upwards. The filter is designed to remain fixed in its housing.
