Unpacking
,
1. Check the packing for damage In the prescence of the forwarding a9ont.
2. Check sewing machine, worktable and accessories for any damage which
may have occurred in transit.
3. In the case of damage, immediately bring such damage to the attention
of the forwarding agent.
Preparation for Operation and Sewing (Straight stitch sewing)
1. The voltage on the current meter should coincide with the ratings on
the motor plate.
2. Connect power supply plug to the mains.
3. Switch on the' motor by means of the switch 48, Fig. 2.
4. Slacken the stitch width nut 3, Fig. 1, turn It.forward as far as It will go-
and retlghten (Straight stitch).
5. Pull up the bobbin thread (holding on to the needle thread and turning
the handwheel towards yourself by one rotation).
6. Raise the presser foot.
7. Place both threads towards the rear underneath the presser foot.
8. Place the sewing material underneath the presser foot and lower the foot.
9. Depress the pedal. The machine will now sew. The further the pedal Is
depressed, the faster the machine will operate.
10. Check the direction of rotation of the machine. The handwheel should
rotate towards the operator.
11. Allow the machine to run without any material only with the presser foot
raised.
12. After sewing, switch off the motor by means of the switch 48, Fig. 2.
Erection
1. Fit the hinges supplied as standard equipment into the sewing machine
base plate and screw down.
2. Place the machine on the assembled worktable or on rubber pads 30,
Fig. 2.
3. Fit the top section support 31 into the tabletop hole.
4. Screw on the spool holder 32 and the power winder 33.
5. Fit the Vee-belt onto the handwheel and motor pul lies. The Vee-belt
has the correct tension when the two runs will just touch at the centre
when pressed together.
Cleaning
!l. Slacken the head cover and throat plate and remove.
|2. Using a soft brush, remove anti-rust grease ánd any dirt from all visible

components.
]3. Screw down head cover and throat plate.
Threading the needle thread
1. Pass the needle thread from the spool through the needle thread bracket
In the spool holder.
2. Through the spool pin 4 (Fig. 4),

4. Antl-clockwise between the pre-tenslonlng discs 2,
5. 1</2 times clockwise around the tensioning rollers,

Needle and Yarn
1. Use needle system 328.
2. Rule for needle gauges:
if the thread jams in the long groove use thicker needle: if the thread has
too much clearance in the long groove use thinner needle.
3. Adapt needle thread to thickness of material.
Replacing the Needle
1. Move needle bar into Its highest position (rotating handwheel towards
2. Turr^needle setscrew 13, Fig. 1, In an antl-clockwise direction and with¬
draw the needle in a downward direction from the needle bar.
3. Insert new needle as far as It will go into the needle bar with the long
groove in front.
4. Tighten needle setscrew 13.

Replacing the presser foot
1. Slacken screw.35, Fig. 3.
2. Withdraw presser foot from the presser bar.
3. Screw on new presser foot in the Inverse order.
Removing the Bobbin
1. Move needle bar to its lowest position (rotating the handwheel towards
yourself).

Swing bobbin casing 36, Fig. 3, forward by smartly depressing the snap
spring 37.
In this position the bobbin can be easily removed.
Zig-zag Stitching
' •
1. Slacken the stitch width adjusting nut 3, Fig. 1, and adjust as follows:
Forward
= smaller stitch width (zig-zag stitch).
Rearward = larger stitch width (zig-zag stitch).
2. Tighten adjusting nut 3.
Please remember to do this, In order to ensure that the stitch width will
not change while sewing.
Changing the Thread Tension
1. - After sewing a short length of seam, check the seam.
Fig. 7, top = correct looping.
Fig. 7, centre = insufficient needle thread tension or excessive bobbin
thread tension.

Fig. 7, bottom = excessive needle thread tension or insufficient bobbin
thread tension.
2. If at all possible, do not change the needle thread tension. This has
been set at the works for standard yarns.
Before carrying out any adjustment, therefore, always start by checking
the threading. Should It be necessary, after all, to change the needle
thread tension, turn the'button 9, Fig. 1, as follows:
Clockwise = Increased tension (looping moving higher up).
Antf-clockwise = reduced tension (looping moving further .down).
3. Do not change the bobbin thread tension unless absolutely necessary.
Should it be necessary after all, adjust by means of the screw 49, Fig. 3:
Clockwise = increased tension.
Antl-clockwise = reduced tension.
Before carrying out any adjustment, the locking screw 50 must be
slackend. This prevents the tension spring screw from dropping out.
On completion of the adjustment retlghten the screw 50.
Cleaning-.and Oiling
1. After continued operation or protracted standstill periods the machine
must be cleaned and oiled.
2. Switch off the motor and remove the mains plug.
3. Remove the head cover, throat plate and base plate slide.
4. Remove any sewing residue from all visible parts.
5. If the machine has not been used for some length of time apply a small
amount of paraffin to all movable parta.
6. Allow machine to run for a short while with the presser foot raised.
7. Remove any dirt.
6. Oil the machine. The lubricating points are Indicated by the arrows In
Figs. 6 and 7. Apply only a few drops to each lubricating point.
9. Only use our heavy duty sewing machine oil MR3.
10. When cleaning and oiling the shuttle path, proceed as follows:
Depress the lever 51, Fig. 10 (the cover spring 52 will swing down).
Raise the shuttle track cover 53 from the guide pins 54 and remove the
barrel shuttle 55 from Its track.
Using a clean oil-saturated cloth, oil the shuttle track which will now
be visible.
Insert the barrel shuttle and shuttle track cover. Close the cover spring,
making sure that the lug 56 engages exactly In the bore 57.
Should there still be any doubts, please consult your agent or an expert.

Winding the Bobbin thread

1. Thread the bobbin thread from the reel through the thread guide eyelet
38, Fig. 5.
2. Pass between the tensioning discs 39 and wind around the bobbin 40.
3. Fit the bobbin 40 onto the winding spindle 41 and lightly depress the
lever 42.

Inserting the bobbin (threading the bobbin thread)
1. Grip the wound bobbin with your left hand so that the thread will unwind
to the left.
2. Jnsert the bobbin Into the swung-out bobbin case and retain.
3. Pass the thread end through the slot as far as underneath the tension
spring 43, thread It into the thread outlet hole 44 and pull It outwards
by approx. 3".
4. Return the bobbin case to its Initial position until it engages with an
audible click.
Adjusting the Stitch Length
1. Rotate stitch regulator lever 7, Fig. 1, as follows:
Clockwise = increased presser foot pressure.
Anti-clockwise = reduced presser foot pressure.
2. According to the material used, the presser foot pressure should
be sufficient to ¿nsure that the material Is satisfactorily fed even with
higher sewing speeds.
Adjusting tho Thread Take-up Spring
1. The take-up spring 45, Fig. 6, Is set at the works for a medium sewing
thickness (position 2).
2. If any adjustment is required, proceed as follows:
Slacken screw 46.
For extremely thin material set Indicator 47 to "I".
For extremely thick material set indicator 47 to "3".
Tighten screw 46.
