Vibration hazards
Exposure to vibration can cause disabling damage to the nerves and blood supply of the hands
and arms. Not all vibration hazards can be eliminated by tool design or construction, and some
residual risks remain. Check the vibration-emission value (obtained using ISO 28927-3) shown in
the specification table. Ensure the risk it represents is assessed and managed. If the risk cannot be
managed so that it falls within acceptable limits, then do not use the tool.
Take the following steps to reduce risk of vibration-related injury:
a) Wear warm clothing when working in cold conditions. Keep hands warm and dry.
b) If numbness, tingling, pain or whitening of the skin of fingers or hands is experienced, stop
using the tool, inform employer (where appropriate) and consult a qualified health professional.
c) Operate and maintain the tool as recommended in the instructions to prevent an unnecessary
increase in vibration levels.
d) Where appropriate, support the weight of the tool in a stand, tensioner or balancer.
e) The risk from vibration is generally greater when the grip force is higher. Hold the tool with a
light but safe grip, taking account of the required hand reaction forces.
f) Ensure the tool and accessories are properly mounted and in good repair: improperly mounted
or damaged tools can cause excessive vibration.
WARNING: Be aware of paint finishes or treatments that may have been applied to the material
that is being worked on. Many treatments can create dust that is toxic, or otherwise harmful. If
working on a building constructed prior to 1960, there is an increased chance of encountering
lead-based paints.
WARNING: The dust produced when grinding objects painted with lead-based paints is
particularly hazardous to children, pregnant women, and people with high blood pressure. Do not
allow these people near the work area, even if wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.

Before Use
Fitting the quick connector
This tool is supplied with two different male airline Quick Connectors (5) (Fig. I):
• EQ-4 – commonly used in Europe
• EN-6 – mainly used in the UK
Please choose the connector that is compatible with the airline system you are using, and install as
outlined below:
1. Apply some PTFE tape (not included) to the screw threads of the Quick Connector. This will help to
maintain an airtight seal
Note: Apply PTFE tape tightly and in a clockwise direction, so it does not come off when the thread is
screwed into the tool.
2. Remove the protective plug from the air inlet
3. Using a spanner (not included) screw the Quick Connector into the air inlet located at the base of the
Handle (4)
4. Connect to airline, pressurise carefully and carry out a leak check (e.g. by spraying small amounts of
soapy water on to the outside of the connectors)
• Air lines fitted with matching female Quick Connectors will now be a push fit to the tool
Air supply connection
• This tool should be connected to a clean, dry air supply with inline oiler and water separator
• Do not allow supply pressure to exceed the maximum stated (see 'Specification')
• Ensure that water is drained from air system daily
• Ensure that all parts of the system (hoses, couplers, etc.) are correctly rated for the air pressure to
be used
Attaching the backing pad
1. Screw the Backing Pad (6) into the Drive Spindle (8) turning clockwise. Tighten by hand
2. Use a suitable spanner (not included) to stop the Drive Spindle rotating if needed
3. Adopt this procedure to remove the Backing Pad, but turn anti-clockwise to unscrew
Attaching the sanding disc
Note: Only use abrasive sanding discs of 150mm diameter, with adhesive backing.
1. Remove old sanding sheets by peeling them off the Backing Pad (6)
2. Clean any adhesive residue off the Backing Pad
3. Peel off the backing paper from the adhesive side of the new sanding sheet
4. Centre the new sanding sheet correctly on the Backing Pad
5. Push the sanding sheet onto the Backing Pad and check it is securely attached
Setting tool power
1. Hold the product firmly, without the Backing Pad (6) attached
2. Squeeze the Speed Control (3) fully
3. Whilst holding the Speed Control , turn the Power Regulator (2) slowly
Note: As it turns you will hear the power increase and decrease.
4. Set speed as required
5. Release the Speed Control
Changing orbital mode
WARNING: Disconnect tool from air supply before making any adjustments.
This product has two modes:
Fixed orbit:
The sanding pad will rotate ONLY around its central axis, like a wheel. It creates a circular pattern on the
sanded material.
1. In fixed orbit, the Drive Spindle (8) and Backing Pad (6) do not rotate freely around their axis
2. To select fixed orbit, rotate the Spindle Lock (7) so that the knurled face lines up with the flat on the
Drive Spindle (Fig. II)
3. Check that the Drive Spindle (8) cannot rotate fully, it should stop when it touches the Spindle Lock
Random orbit:
The sanding pad orbits around its eccentric path. It creates a random sanding pattern in all directions on
the sanded material.
1. In random orbit, the Drive Spindle (8) and Backing Pad (6) can rotate freely and fully around their axis
2. To select random orbit, rotate the Spindle Lock (7) so that one flat side faces the Drive Spindle (Fig. III)
3. Check the Drive Spindle is able to rotate fully through 360°, and does not touch the Spindle Lock
