DESCRIPTION
The Large Sterile Transfer Battery System and the Small Sterile Transfer Battery System are comprised of the
parts listed above. The Sterile Transfer Systems are used to power all PowerPro
®
MPower
Battery Handpieces. The batteries are charged non-sterile using the battery charger and platform and
then transferred to the sterile case via a sterile shroud. Refer to the Universal Battery Charger Instruction Manual for
more information.
Indication for Use
The Large Sterile Transfer Battery System and the Small Sterile Transfer Battery System are for use in orthopedic
procedures such as osteotomies, small and large bone trauma, orthopedic reconstruction, and medial sternotomy.
Operating Principles
The Large Sterile Transfer Battery System and the Small Sterile Transfer Battery System are used in conjunction with all
PowerPro, PowerProMax, and MPower Battery Handpieces. The cases and shrouds are sterilized. The batteries are
charged non-sterile outside the operating room environment using the battery charger and compatible charging platform.
The battery is then aseptically transferred into the compatible sterile case via the compatible sterile shroud. The sterilized
shroud prevents inadvertent contact between the non-sterile battery and sterile case during transfer. The case is closed and
latched to seal the battery inside the case preventing the non-sterile battery from contaminating the sterile field. The case is
then connected to the handpiece. The operating mode and speed of the handpieces is controlled by triggers and switches
on the handpieces.
WARNINGS
1. Do not short circuit battery terminals or allow them to come into contact with metal objects. This could cause
a shock or burn injury and also damage the battery.
2. Inspect battery for damage (i.e., cracks in cell casing) prior to use. Do not use damaged battery. If battery is
damaged and leakage or residue is noticed, do not allow it to come in contact with skin, eyes or clothing,
burns may result. If contact occurs, flush area with copious amounts of water and seek medical attention
immediately. Dispose of or recycle properly.
3. Use only one battery and one shroud per battery case per procedure. Do not reuse the shroud without sterilizing it
first. Do not put a second battery into the battery case without sterilizing the case first.
4. Inspect Sterile Transfer Battery Case for any damage, such as: cracks in the case or damaged, broken, or worn gasket,
latch, and/or hinge. If damage is found, do not use. Sterility may be compromised and patient infection may occur.
