1.1.3 USER REQUIREMENTS

Users of fall protection must be in good physical health and not under the
influence of medication, drugs or alcohol.
2.
Anchor strength should be reviewed by a Qualified Person.
The general instructions in this manual may be supplemented by instructions
issued with specific equipment. Those instructions are to be followed in addition to
the general instructions contained here. The FP540 Series Rope Grabs come with
installation and user instructions. They should be stored in a safe place for future
reference once adequate training is completed.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
The 540 Series Rope Grab is only part of a complete fall protection system.
Always use it with compatible products from North or as recommended by a
Qualified Person.
2.1
Attach the appropriate vertical
lifeline to an independent
5,000 lb. (22kN) anchor point
above the head of the user.
Anchors are required to hold
5,000 lbs. (22kN) per user.
2.2
Ensure that the vertical lifeline
does not contact sharp edges or
other abrasive surfaces.
2.3
Attach a rope weight to the end
of the lifeline to ensure a light
tension and absence of slack.
2.4
To open the rope grab, pull back
the safety lock lever (A) to the
opened position. (Figure 1)
2.5
Unscrew the locking thumb-
screw (B) until the 2-rope grab
body halves open. Open the
hinged body half (C) so that it
can be installed over the rope.
2.6
Install the rope grab on the life-
line with the UP arrow pointing
in the direction of the anchor –
UP. The arrow is stamped onto
the rope grab body above the
thumbscrew. (Figure 2)
2.7
Close the rope grab onto the
lifeline. Both rope grab body
halves should be brought
together as shown in Figure 2.
Visually confirm that the rope
grab is closed and that the
directional arrow is pointing in
an upward position towards the
anchor.
