Adjusting the chain tension
Turn the chain tensioner knob down (+) for a tighter ten-
sion.
Turn the chain tensioner knob up (-) to loosen the tension.
Checking chain lubrication
1. Aim the tip of the bar about 20cm away from a light-co-
lored surface.
2. After 1 min running at ¾ throttle, you should see a
distinct line of oil on the surface.
If the automatic lubrication system does not work:
1. Check that oil channel in the bar is not obstructed.
2. Check that the groove in the edge of the bar is clean.
3. Check that the bar tip sprocket turns freely and the
lubricating hole is not blocked.
Sharpening the cutters
NOTE! You must file all cutters to the specified angles and
to the same length for a fast cutting.
1. Tension the chain.
2. Carry out the filling at the midpoint of the bar using a
round file and holder.
3. Keep the file level with the top plate of the tooth and do
not let it dip or rock.
4. Using a light but firm pressure, stroke towards the
front corner of the tooth.
5. Lift the file away from the steel on each return stroke.
6. File all left hand cutters in one direction. Then move
to the other side and file the right-hand cutters in the
opposite direction.
7. Remove fillings from the file with a wire brush.
Top/Side plate filing angle
The correct top and side plate filing angle are of 30º and
80º respectively:
The depth gauge has to be maintained at a clearance of
0.6mm. You can use a flat file and depth gauge jointer to do
so. You need to restore the original shape of each lowered
gauge by rounding the front:
