IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO ENJOY YOUR EVÖAIR IN COMPLETE SAFETY
Failure to follow these warnings and the manufacturer's instructions can result in death or serious injury. Read
instructions thoroughly, watch videos at www.chimparoo.ca and follow all instructions before using your carrier. Use
the EvöAir from birth (8 lbs - 3.6 kg) up to 65 lbs (30 kg). In the case of babies with low birthweights and children with
medical conditions, we strongly recommend seeking advice from a health professional before using the product.
POSITION OF BABY'S BACK AND HIPS
It takes several months for a baby's bones and joints to mature enough to
support an upright sitting and standing posture. When carrying your baby,
keep the development of their spine and hips in mind, promoting growth
and avoiding injury. Chimpäroo baby carriers are designed based on settled
scientific consensus. It is particularly important that your baby receives proper
support in his or her first 6 months of life, in what is known as an ergonomic
position. The table to the right shows how a baby's spine changes with age.
From birth to the age of 6 months, care must be taken to ensure that the
spine is both supported and round, and not compressed against the wearer's
body. To ensure the correct position, use your hands to take your baby's
pelvis, lift it slightly inside the baby carrier and turn it towards you. Bring your
baby's knees well up and gently extend her legs with her feet pointing down.
We call this position the squat or "M" position.
Adjust your baby's position, making sure your baby is not placed too low
on your hips. The baby's bottom should be at waist height at least. A simple
method of measuring the height your baby should be at is to kiss them on
the head. If you have to bend your back to do so, they are too low down.
The "kiss height" is recognized throughout the community and organizations
related to babywearing as a measure to ensure a safe position for babies,
as well as the back health of the person carrying the baby. If your baby is on
your back, you can place them at an even higher position so they can see
over your shoulder.
