BUOYANCY AID LEVEL 50
A buoyancy aid, or PFD (personal floatation device), provides additional
floatation to a conscious swimmer in sheltered waters with help close at hand.
Note: This is a buoyancy aid not a lifejacket. A lifejacket will turn an
unconscious wearer onto their back, keeping their airway clear. A buoyancy
aid may require action by the user to keep their face clear of the water.
Since 2008, ISO certification is the standard to which all buoyancy aids or
PFDs must be tested. Palm was the first company to have PFDs pass the
Level 50 (EN ISO 12402-5) and Level 50 Special Purpose Device (EN ISO
12402-6) standards. Palm PFDs also pass the new UKCA certification.
Safety is core to Palm's PFD design ethos. This is why the majority of our
PFDs feature around 20% more buoyancy than the 50 N minimum.
Whitewater models include up to an extra 40%.
