5.5 RCD Test
TELARIS 0100 allows trip time testing of standard
and time delayed RCDs. Additionally, the trip cur-
rent can be measured for standard RCDs.
Prior to testing, we recommend all loads are
switched off as they could falsify the mea-
surement result.
The protective conductor must be free of ex-
ternal voltage for the RCD test. However if an
extraneous voltage is present, the instru-
ment only indicates the voltage UB having
been generated by the measurement. The
measurement interruption caused by excess
of UL by UB is only generated by the actual
voltage present between the neutral conduc-
tor (N) and the protective conductor (PE).
" Connect the mains plug to the socket under test.
" Set measurement range selection switch (24) to
the desired range / nominal current (depending
on the RCD).
" Selection between standard RCD, time delayed
RCD and measurement of trip current may be
carried out by pressing key „S/I " (22).
When choosing time delayed RCD, the symbol „S"
(10) appears, when measuring the trip current, the
symbol „I<" (17) is displayed. Note, that the „time
delayed RCD" option is only available for
nominal fault currents 100, 300, and 500mA.
" Select contact voltage threshold by means of
key „VC/UL" (21).
The socket is continuously tested for perfect
functioning. If the display indicates the sym-
bol „Turn plug by 180°", turn the plug by
180°. If the socket symbol (5) is displayed, a
mains error is present (e.g. one conductor is
not connected or the connection is faulty), or
the instrument fuse is faulty. If the voltage
present between N and PE exceeds the pre-
selected contact voltage threshold
(50V/25V), „UB>UL" (4) is displayed.
For complete socket testing, touch the contact
electrode PE (23) and observe the display indi-
cation. If the symbol „socket error" (6) occurs,
a PE error is present.
" For correct socket, start the measurement by
pressing „Start" key (25).
" Read measurement result on display (please
refer to chapters 5.5.1 and 5.5.2).
If the residual current circuit breaker re-
sponds during the test or if the RCD triggers
correctly, the socket symbol (5) is displayed.
If the generated contact voltage between N-
PE turns out to be higher than the selected
contact voltage limit, the measurement is in-
terrupted and symbol „UB>UL" (4) is dis-
played. If measurement results have been
obtained previously, they are still displayed.
