Any Pit Boss® unit will give you many years of flavorful service with
minimum cleaning. Follow these tips to service your grill:
Grill Interior
•
Clean your burn pot out after every few uses. This will ensure prop-
er ignition and avoid any hard build-up of debris or ash. (A)
•
Use a grill cleaning brush to remove any food or build-up from the
cooking grates. Best practice is to do this while they are still warm
from a previous cook.
•
Grease fires are caused by too much fallen debris and grease build-
up on the cooking components of each grilling chamber.
•
Wood Pellet Grill: Use the flame broiler slide plate to scrape
off the flame broiler main plate, and vise-versa (B). Remove
the debris from inside your barrel with a wet/dry vacuum.
IMPORTANT: Due to high heat, do not cover the flame
broiler components with aluminum foil.
•
Gas Griddle: Use a spatula or scraper to remove all food and
grease from the griddle cooking surface after and/or in-be-
tween your cook sessions. Carefully, lift the four corners of
the griddle (hot plate) to remove from the grill cart, exposing
the burners and the inside of your barrel (C). It is important
to clean the bottom of the barrel to ensure the grease chan-
nel remains clear and unobstructed to the grease tray. For a
deep clean, use Pit Boss® Cleaner & Degreaser for the
grill interior and exterior.
•
The griddle (hot plate) comes preseasoned from the factory, but
it is important to clean and season the griddle after each use to
prevent rust, extend the life of the griddle, and create a non-
stick cooking surface. The seasoning of the griddle is a continuous
process that must be repeated over the life of your griddle to
ensure the best cooking experience and use.
•
Clean the griddle after each use, using a spatula or scraper
to remove all food and debris from cooking surface. Liberal-
ly apply an even coat of cooking oil to the cooking surface,
spreading around with a folded paper towel or a clean cloth.
Vegetable, olive, peanut, coconut, and sesame oils are all suit-
able oils for seasoning your griddle. Allow the griddle surface
to cool in a cool, dry location. (D)
Grill Exterior
•
Check your grease bucket (wood pellet grill) and your grease tray
(gas griddle) often, and clean out as necessary. Keep in mind the
type of cooking you do, as some meats release more liquid than
others. (E)
•
Wipe your grill down after each use (F). Use warm soapy water
to cut the grease. Do not use oven cleaner, abrasive cleansers, or
abrasive cleaning pads on the outside grill surfaces. All painted
surfaces are not covered under warranty, but are rather part of
general maintenance and upkeep. For paint scratches, wearing, or
flaking of the finish, all painted surfaces can be touched up using
a high heat BBQ paint.
