Safe installation and use of your fall arrest device

will be ensured by following the instructions
given in this manual. You should however refrain
from the following.
Do not:
– secure the fall arrest device by any means
other than that recommended in this manual,
– install or use the fall arrest device using a
damaged wire rope,
– use the fall arrest device on a lifting installation
for which the working load limit exceeds the
working load limit of the fall arrest device,
– use the fall arrest device without first having
completed the checks described in this
manual,
– use the fall arrest device for any operation
other than those for which it is intended, or
install the device in any way other than that
described in this manual,
– apply a load, other than the ballasting weight,
to the slack strand of the safety wire rope,
– use the fall arrest device in an explosive
environment (device not compliant with ATEX
directive 94/9/CE) or use the device in any
highly corrosive environment,
– use the fall arrest device at temperatures less
than -10°C or greater than +50°C,
– use any other means for operating the BSA fall
arrest device other than the lifting wire rope,
– use the fall arrest device to perform lifting
operations,
– use the fall arrest device if it has not been
inspected for more than 1 year,
– use the fall arrest device without first having
checked that all its safety equipment operates
correctly,
– use the fall arrest device with any wire rope
other than a genuine Tractel wire rope,
– actuate the lever on the BSA fall arrest device,
– modify the adjustment on the BSA fall arrest
device,
– make any changes to the fall arrest device,
– interfere in any way with movement of the
lever on the BSA fall arrest device,
– strike the control components on the fall arrest
device,
– use chemical products (acids, chlorinated
products) to clean the fall arrest device.

Each fall arrest device is engraved (fig. 3) with
the following information:
d: technical device reference
f: YY = last 2 digits of the manufacturing year,
MM = manufacturing month
g: device serial number
o: Made in France

A label is fastened to each BSA (fig. 4) fall arrest
device; it contains the following information:
• item 1: designation,
• item 2: model,
• item 3: wire rope diameter in mm,
• item 4: "man lifting" symbol,
• item 5: working load limit for man lifting in
kg,
• item 6: symbol indicating obligation to read
this manual before installation and
use of the fall arrest device,
• item 7: manufacturer's address and contact
details.
