Starting / Stopping
Instructions
(continued)
This unit uses a
NOTICE
starting system
which significantly reduces the effort
required to start the engine. Pull the
starter rope out far enough to
hear/feel the engine attempt to start.
There is no need to pull the rope
briskly – there is no harsh resistance
when pulling. Be aware that this
starting method may be different from
(and much easier) than other engines.
Always pull the starter rope straight out.
Pulling the starter rope at an angle will
cause the rope to rub against the eyelet.
This friction will cause the rope to fray
and quickly wear. Always hold the starter
handle when the rope retracts. Never
allow the rope to snap back from the
extended position. This could cause the
rope to snag or fray and also damage the
starter assembly.
6. Pull starter rope (E) 4 to 6 times
(See Figure 6).
When unit starts, move choke
lever to HALF CHOKE.

7. If unit fails to start move choke
lever to HALF CHOKE and pull
rope 6 more times until unit
starts.
8. Once engine starts, slowly
move throttle lever to full
throttle, allowing for the
engine to warm up.
9. After engine warms up (about
1-2 minutes,) move choke lever
to RUN.

10. Pump will run at any throttle
position. If high pressure and/or flow
is not needed, running pump at a
lower throttle position will conserve
fuel and prolong seal life.
11. The pump may take several minutes
to prime, depending on the suction
lift height. The closer the pump is to
the water, the less time it will take to
prime.
NOTE: If engine fails to start after
repeated attempts, refer to the
Troubleshooting section.
STARTING A COLD ENGINE (BELOW 55°F)
1. Move the ignition switch to the ON
position.
2. Move the throttle lever to
the slow position.
3. Pump the primer bulb 10 times.
4. Move the choke lever to FULL
CHOKE.
5. With unit on the ground, grip the top
handle.
6. Pull the starter rope until the unit
starts. This may take up to 10 times.
7. Once engine starts, move the
choke lever to HALF CHOKE.
8. Slowly move throttle lever
to full throttle, allowing
for the engine to warm
up.
9. After engine warms up (about
1-2 minutes,) move choke lever
to RUN.

STARTING A WARM ENGINE
(Engine has been stopped for less than
15-20 minutes)
1. Move the ignition switch to the ON
position.
2. Move the throttle lever
to the slow position.
3. Pump the primer bulb 10 times.
4. Move the choke lever to HALF
CHOKE.
5. With unit on the ground, grip the
top handle.
6. Pull the starter rope until the unit
starts. If the engine does not start
after 5 pulls, follow the procedure
for starting a cold engine.
7. Slowly move throttle
lever to full throttle,
allowing for the engine
to warm up.
8. After engine warms up (about
1 minute) move choke lever to
RUN.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
Emergency Stopping Procedure
When it is necessary to stop the unit
immediately, move the ignition switch
to the OFF position.
Normal Stopping Procedure
Move throttle lever to the slow
position and allow engine to return to
idle speed. Then move the ignition
switch to the OFF position.
