CUTTING GUIDES – SLIDER WITH METAL PIN
Cylinders and prisms
1. As cutting round shapes involves some skills, do practice with a
work piece fi rst before commencing your actual work.
2. Adjusting the temperature slightly lower will allow you to work
slowly.
3. For cutting cylinders or prisms, fi rst remove the angular gauge with
extension bar.
4. Ensure heater wire is taut, 90 degrees for cylinder, or at a slanted
angle for prism.
5. Decide on the "radius" of the block, insert the metal pin into the
corresponding slider hole (each hole is 1/2" apart).
6. Leave a small margin at the edge of the block. This is for allowing
the "entrance" of the heater wire into the block before we rotate the
block.
7. Insert the metal pin into the bottom of the polystyrene foam. The
metal pin will be the center of the circular block. Remember to leave
the small margin at the edge of the block.
8. Place the block with the slider in the sliding slot.
9. Slowly moves the block towards the heater wire.
10. O nce the slider hits the end of the wall, start turning and rotate the
block.
11. O nce fi nished rotating, exit from the "entrance cut".
CUTTING GUIDES – HOT kNIFE TIP
Hollow shapes
1. As working on cut-outs involves some skills, do practice with a work
piece fi rst before commencing your actual work.
2. Ensure unit is off.
3. First remove the angular gauge with extension bar, and also remove
the heater wire.
4. O pen the cover plate and insert the hot knife tip to the tip holder
vertically all the way into the electrical terminal to ensure good
electrical contact.
5. Allow the hot knife tip to pre-heat for 2 minutes.
6. The thickness of the block / foam board should be shorter than the
length of the hot knife tip in order to achieve a successful cut.
7. Raise the block in mid-air, and slowly lower the block and let the hot
knife tip poke through the block and start pushing the block around
following the cut-out shape.
