OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
Heater Wire
1. Follow the instructions for installing metal overarm and installing heater wire.
2. A lways ensure the unit is in OFF position by turning the temperature control knob all the way to the far left, before adjusting or
touching the heater wire.
3. Connect transformer to unit and connect power.
4. I f you are using the Heater wire and NOT the hot knife tip, close the cover plate for a complete flat working surface.
5. Follow the cutting guides in the next section for ideas.
Hot knife Tip
1. Unit comes with an optional hot knife tip in the accessories.
2. To use, open the cover plate and insert hot knife tip vertically all the way into the electrical terminal to ensure good electrical
contact.
3. A lways ensure the unit is in OFF position by turning the temperature control knob all the way to the far left, before adjusting or
touching the heater wire.
4. remove the heater wire, because usually it will obstruct the work piece.
5. adjust the temperature control knob and pre-heat the hot knife tip for 2 minutes.
Hints and Maintenance
1. Heater wire may extend slightly after heated for the first time. Re-adjust the tension to make heater wire taut again.
2. Heater wire normally breaks at the bottom. Feeding heater wire a few inches into the heater wire hole regularly can prevent the
heater wire from breaking. Re-adjust temperature as necessary after adjusting heater wire.
3. Cutting polystyrene or other foam materials may emit fumes. Always work in a well-ventilated room.
4. C lean the heater wire frequently (be sure the unit is OFF!) using a steel wire brush to remove foam residues on the heater wire
to avoid residues dripping down and blocking the heater wire hole.
5. O nly use the heater wire sold by our company. Other heater wires may have different resistance and may overload the
transformer.
CUTTING GUIDES – ANGULAR GAUGE WITH
ExTENSION BAR
Blocks
1. To cut rectangular blocks, fix the angle gauge with
extension bar in the moving slot in the orientation shown
below, with a desired distance from the wire, which will
become the thickness of each block.
2. Adjust the heater wire to 90 degrees.
3. Adjust the temperature control knob to desired
temperature by testing on a test piece.
4. Slowly push the polystyrene into the heater wire.
5. Remove work piece immediately after each cut, to avoid
melting the edges.
Angled cuts or miters
1. For angled cuts or miters, fix the angle gauge with
extension bar in the moving slot in the orientation shown
below, with a desired distance from the wire, which will
become the base length of each block.
2. Loosen the spool carrier fixation knob and slide the spool
carrier along the overarm to the designed cutting angle.
3. Tighten the spool carrier fixation knob.
4. Adjust the length of the heater wire to ensure wire is taut.
5. Adjust the temperature control knob to desired
temperature by testing on a test piece.
6. Slowly push the polystyrene into the heater wire.
7. Remove work piece immediately after each cut, to avoid
melting the edges.
