Mounting of extension assist spring
The extension assist cable runs round the distal anchor shell and is hooked to the swing axis
(fig. 3). The end of the extension assist cable needs to appear to the rear (fig. 6).
Adjusting the load-dependent brake effect
The brake's response threshold can be regulated via the adjusting screw (fig. 4) which tensions
the compression spring with a 5 mm allen key.
When turning the screw clockwise, the braking effect only occurs at higher levels of load.
Turning the screw counterclockwise results in a more sensitive brake response.
Care must be taken when adjusting the brake to ensure that there is always sufficient
braking effect.
Set the joint mobility by adjusting the axle friction
The amount of braking force is set by the axle friction. Increasing the axle friction also increases
the resistance to movement between the knee axle and the brake bushing. Even slight adjust-
ments of the screw can result in noticeable changes. If the setting is too tight, the baking effect
occurs even without load. If the adjustment is too loose, it can cause noises and premature wear.
The adjustment of the axle friction must be done sensitively. Increase the axle friction by
turning the set screw (fig. 5) clockwise with a 3 mm allen key.
The axle friction setting affects the behaviour oft he load-dependent brake.
Adjusting the extension assist spring
By turning the adjustment screw the tension of the extension spring can be adjusted with a
4 mm allen key (fig. 6). Turning the screw counterclockwise decreases the tension of the
spring, turning it clockwise increases the tension of the spring.
Replacing the brake bushing with 3A15/E100 resp. 3A49/E100 Service Parts Sets
To replace the brake bushing, first unhook the extension assist cable (cf. fig. 3). Then remove
the axis screw (fig. 7) from the joint section using a 6 mm allen key. Push the guide surface
of the knee axis out of the lower joint section to rear and up (fig. 8) and remove the brass
washers. In order to extend the bore of the axis turn the setscrew clockwise (fig. 9). Open the
adjustment set screw (fig. 10) with a 2 mm allen key, push out the knee axis and remove the
brake bushing. Install the new brake bushing. Afterwards, push the knee axis into the bushing,
screw in the set screw and secure it with super glue (fig. 11). Reassemble in the reverse order.
After replacing the brake bushing, adjust joint functions as mentioned above.
