7. All grounded edges must then at least be burred with emery paper of
grain size 240 (e. g. Item-No. 161P72 or 161P73) or by polishing with a

8. Close the hook-and-loop fastener of the calf pad. If necessary, the loop

4.2 Advice for Patients
1. Only wear the peroneal spring with a suitable shoe. The heel cap of the
shoe must be high enough to prevent the heel slipping out. Always test
the heel setting with the orthosis in order to take into account the sole
strength of the orthosis.
2. Slip-on shoes are unsuitable as the opening for the foot is often too
small and the shoe does not provide enough space for the foot and
the orthosis. Shoes with adjustable systems for opening and closing are
better suited. The shoes must not be done up to the extent that there
is any additional pressure at the back of the foot. Make sure there is
enough space in the toe area.
3. To avoid sweat or friction-induced skin irritations the orthosis should
not be worn in direct contact with the skin. An ordinary stocking or
compression stocking as prescribed by your doctor is sufficient for
rolling down the leg and should be changed at least once a day.
The perspiration is drawn off and absorbed by the material.
4. Check the skin around bony structures regularly for pressure sores.
These can lead to tissue damage and infections. Get your orthopaedic
technician to remove any pressure sores.
5. In the event of any disturbance of sensation in the affected leg visual
checks for any changes to the skin should be carried out on a regular
basis.
6. Keep the lower leg orthosis away from heat in excess of 60 °C or direct
sunlight.
