The indications concerning the quality of the electrode should be considered separately. A low level
of quality for one of the two readings is an indication of poor quality even if the other reading is
good.
WARNING: Always check the quality of the sample solutions. They must be fresh, have an evenly
distributed colour and no algae must have formed in them.
EXAMPLE:
Let us suppose that when calibrating with the 7 pH solution the quality is found to be 10%, while
when calibrating with the 4 pH solution the quality is found to be 98%.
In this case it is obvious that the reference element of the electrode was prematurely damaged.
This is typical, for instance, in chlorination systems in which shock chlorination is carried out, as
this tens to pollute the reference element of the electrode.
In this case, it would be a good rule to exclude the measuring system when carrying out the
superchlorination, or to use a special electrode with a double barrier, designed specifically to
withstand damage caused by the chlorine dissolved in the water.
