DESCRIPTION

The RB 3300 is an electronic board designed for use in the RCF RX 3000 audio system. Coupled with a power amplifier with constant volta-
ge outputs, the RB 3300 board makes it possible to:
• switch the amplifier on/off by means of the CP 3100 control unit
• control amplifier operation
• activate a backup amplifier in the event of a failure on the amplifier controlled by the board
• monitor the amplifier speaker output by means of the dedicated loudspeaker on the CP 3100 control unit.
The amplifier to which the board is coupled can be the primary one normally used for sound diffusion in a certain audio zone, or a backup
amplifier to be used in place of the primary amplifier in the event of a breakdown. The board is installed on the rack in correspondence with
the rear panel of the amplifier to be controlled, and is connected to the CP 3100 control unit by means of a digital bus and an audio monitor
bus. The RB 3300 board has the following features and functions:
• Balanced input for the line signal.
• Balanced output for driving the amplifier.
• Input for signalling an alarm coming from the amplifier being controlled (e.g. overload).
• Amplifier speaker output monitoring, with the possibility to control lines at 25 V, 50 V, 70 V, 100 V.
• Signalling the following types of alarms to the CP 3100 control unit:
– board reset ("watchdog" reset)
– power supply anomalies on the board (12V and/or 24V).
– operating anomalies on the amplifier being controlled, signalled by means of an auxiliary contact on the amplifier (e.g. operation in over-
load).
– alarms transmitted by the optional SB 3320 FAULT DETECTOR board.
– indications from the optional LB 3340 DIGITAL ALC board.
• Manual or automatic activation of a backup amplifier in place of the amplifier being controlled in the event of:
– an alarm transmitted from the amplifier being controlled (e.g. overload alarm).
– an alarm transmitted from the optional SB 3320 FAULT DETECTOR board.
• High reliability thanks to the "watchdog" hardware, which permits immediate recovery of the normal operating conditions in the event of in-
duced interference.
• Can be equipped with the optional LB 3340 DIGITAL ALC board, which makes it possible to use the "ALC" function for automatic control
of the ambient signal/noise ratio, and the "DAY/NIGHT" function for automatic lowering of the sound level during the nighttime hours.
• Can be equipped with the optional SB 3320 FAULT DETECTOR board, which makes it possible to use the "LINE FAULT" function for
checking correct operation of the speaker line, the "PA FAULT" function for checking correct amplifier operation, and the "FIRE-BREAK"
function for transmitting an alarm signal with absolute priority (e.g. fire alarm), with exclusion of the signal coming from the audio matrix of
the system.
DEVICES (fig. 1 - page 72)
1) "M9" terminal strip
Used for the input of the "backup PA bus" line (see the section "BOARD OPERATION").
2) "M10" terminal strip
Used for the output of the signal for speakers, which is used for supplying the line to which all the loudspeakers dedicated to a certain
zone are connected.
3) "CN1" connector
Used for connecting the optional SB 3320 FAULT DETECTOR board.
4) "JP2" jumper
Used for enabling/disabling the operation of the optional SB 3320 FAULT DETECTOR board.
5) "M12" terminal strip
Used for the input of the "monitor bus" line (see the section "BOARD OPERATION").
6) "RF2" fuse resistor
Protects the circuits supplied with voltage of 5 Vdc.
7) "RF1" fuse resistor
Protects the circuits supplied with voltage of 12 Vdc.
8) "FLT" indicator light
This LED lights up to indicate an alarm caused by the 12 Vdc and/or 24 Vdc supply voltage being too low or absent.
IMPORTANT NOTE
• When the LED lights up, it will go off automatically as soon as the alarm situation is over.
9) "ALM" indicator light
When the RB 3300 back-amplifier board activates the amplifier under its control (A.C.U. switched on), this light flashes to indicate one
of the following alarm situations:
• board reset controlled by the "watchdog" function which intervenes when the board no longer functions correctly due to interferen-
ce of a transitory nature (e.g. overvoltage). The LED goes off as soon as the CP 3100 control unit receives the alarm indication and
acquires the related information.
• change of address of the board. The LED goes off as soon as the CP 3100 control unit receives the alarm indication and acquires the
related information.
• board reset controlled by means of microswitch number 8 of the "DSW1" dipswitch (ref. 11 - Fig. 1, page 72). The LED goes off as
soon as the CP 3100 control unit receives the alarm indication and acquires the related information.
• disconnection of the optional LB 3340 DIGITAL ALC and/or SB 3320 FAULT DETECTOR board. To switch the LED off it is necessary
to reconnect the board removed, or reset the RB 3300 board (see the section "BOARD RESET").
• activation of a "LINE FAULT", "PA FAULT", or "OVL" alarm (see the section "BOARD FUNCTIONS"). The LED goes off when the
alarm stops.
When the RB 3300 back-amplifier board causes the disactivation of the amplifier under its control (A.C.U. switched off), the LED con-
tinues to flash.
