ADJUSTING TRIMMING LINE LENGTH
The bump head cuttingattachmentallowsyou to release
trimminglinewithoutstoppingthe engine.To release more line,
lightlytap the cuttingattachmenton the ground(Fig. 7) while
operatingthe trimmerat highspeed.
NOTE: Always keep the trimming line fully extended. Line
release becomes more difficult w hen the cuttingline
gets shorter.
TIPS FOR BEST TRIMMING RESULTS
• Keep the cuttingattachmentparallelto the ground.
• Do not force the cuttingattachment.Allowthe tip of the line
to do the cutting,especiallyalong walls.Cuttingwithmore
than the tip will reducecuttingefficiencyand may overload
the engine.
• Cut grass over8 in. (200 ram) by workingfrom top to bottom
in small increments to avoidprematurelinewear or
enginedrag.
• Cut from rightto leftwheneverpossible. C uttingto the left
improves the unit'scuttingefficiency. C lippingsare thrown
away from the operator.
• Slowlymovethe trimmerintoand out of the cuttingarea at
the desiredheight.Move eitherin a forward-backward or
side-to-sidemotion.Cuttingshorterlengthsproduces the
best results.
• Trimonlywhen grass and weeds are dry.
• The life of yourcuttingline is dependentupon:
• Following the trimmingtechniques.
• What vegetationis beingcut.
• Where vegetationis cut.
Forexample,the linewillwear faster when trimmingagainst
foundation wall as opposedto trimmingarounda tree.
DECORATIVETRIMMING
Decorative trimmingis accomplished by removingall vegetation
aroundtrees, posts, fences and more.Rotatethe whole unitso
that the cuttingattachmentis at 30° angleto the ground(Fig. 8).
Fig. 7
Each time the head is bumped, about 1 in. (25.4 mm) of
trimming line releases. A blade in the cutting attachment shield
will cut the line to the proper length if any excess line
is released.
For best results, tap the bump knob on bare ground or hard soil.
If you attempta line release in tall grass, the engine may stall.
Always keepthe trimmingline fully extended.Line release
becomesmore difficult w hen the cuttingline
gets shorter.
NOTE: Do not rest the bump head on the ground while the unit
is running.
Some line breakage willoccurfrom:
• Entanglementwith foreign matter.
• Normal line fatigue.
• Attempting to cut thick,stalkyweeds,
• Forcingthe line intoobjectssuch as walls or fence posts.

CAUTION: Do not removeor alter the line cuttingblade
assembly.Excessivelinelengthwill make the clutch
overheat.This may lead to seriouspersonalinjuryor
damage to the unit.
