N.B. Before starting grinding operations, it is imperative to position the chain at the center of the two jaws fastened onto the
vise (the motor must be turned off).
Proceed as follows:
- identify the type and thickness of the chain to be ground, through a survey or by consulting the chains table enclosed at the end of
the handbook (see columns C-D-E-F-G for their make and type and column B for thickness (gauge)).
- use a piece of a new chain with at least two opposed teeth having the same thickness (gauge) as the chain to be ground – position it
on the vise, the depth gauge must be on the right (photo 8)
- after identifying the chain thickness (gauge), activate the graduated cam, which must be positioned on the thickness value (photo 10)
- loosen the vise with the knob below (photo 8) and turn the vise clockwise, considering the degree corresponding to the upper grinding
angle of the right-hand tooth, using the graduated scale (photo 8) (different angles based on the type of chain, consult the chains table
at the end of the handbook, column H)
- make the vise travel along the slide and position it at 0° using the graduated scale on the right of the slide; clamp the assembly with
the knob below (photo 9)
- have one of the right-hand teeth strike against the chain stop (photo 8)
- unscrew the arm tightening knob at the back of the base (photo 7)
- turn the wheel arm by the degree corresponding to the upper cutting angle of the right-hand tooth using the graduated scale positioned
on the base (photo 7) (different angles based on the type of chain, consult the chains table at the end of the handbook, column I)
- lock the arm with the knob (photo 7)
- lower the arm and check the distance between the tooth and the wheel
- activating the chain feeding-stop adjustment screw (photo 15 – point 1), make various attempts to have the tooth touch the wheel
(the screw must be activated with the arm in stand-by position, so that the chain can slide in the two jaws)
- turn the vise in the opposite direction according to the same degree, have the left-hand tooth strike against the chain stop (photo 8/A),
lower the arm and check that the tooth touch the wheel like the right-hand tooth
- in case of a considerable difference, the chain axiality is not perfect; adjust the graduated cam with short displacements, in order to
identify the correct position for the chain
- after identifying the chain's center line, you can start grinding

GRINDING

- it is recommended to clean the chain before grinding it
- place the chain to be ground on the two jaws, with the depth gauge on the right, as indicated (photo 8)
- loosen the vise with the knob below it (photo 8) and turn it clockwise, considering the degree corresponding to the upper grinding
angle of the right-hand tooth, using the graduated scale (photo 8)
- have one of the right-hand teeth strike against the chain stop and, with the adjustment screw (photo 15 - point 1) adjust the tooth
feed
- turn off the motor, lower the arm and, after various attempts, with the chain feeding adjustment screw, approach the tooth to the wheel
and touch it, always starting from the worst tooth identified using the template (fig. 3 point D)
- start-up the grinder and, with the tooth feeding adjustment screw, calculate the quantity of material to be removed
- then, lock the adjustment screw with the ring (photo 15 – point 2)
- to avoid overloading the motor and to prevent the chain teeth from being damaged, remove minimum quantities of material
and do not work too long on the same tooth, to prevent the cutter from being burnt out
- adjust the grinding depth with the adjustment screw on the arm; be careful to avoid nicking the links (photo 11)
- once the grinding depth has been determined, lock the adjustment screw with the ring (photo 11 – point 1)
- when the arm has been lowered, the chain is automatically locked inside the two jaws, for a precise and safe grinding
- grind all teeth of the same type (right-hand) before turning the vise from the opposite side to start grinding left-hand teeth (photo 8/A);
do not touch the chain feeding adjustment screw (photo 15 – point 1)
- with some types of chain, the vise must be moved in either direction, as indicated on the graduated scale, to the right of the slide
(photo 9)
- if necessary, the vise must be moved towards the operator for right-hand teeth (photo 9/A) and from the opposite side for left-hand
teeth (photo 9/B) (consult the chains table at the end of the handbook, column L).
- for very worn chains, adjust the lateral position of the chain stop (photo 15 – point 3) with the knob (photo 15 – point 4), to prevent
the wheel from nicking the stop
N.B.
- do not use coolants during grinding.
- after grinding, turn off the grinder, turning the switch to "O" before removing the chain
- if, when you turn the switch to "1", the grinder does not start, and if when the switch is in the "0" position the grinder does
not stop, promptly disconnect the power cable from the mains
- if, during grinding, the wheel is accidentally hit, follow the instructions provided in paragraph FITTING THE GRINDING

GRINDING DEPTH GAUGES

- set the vise on 0° (photo 16)
- set the wheel arm on 90°(the wheel is perpendicular to the vise), as indicated by the graduated scale positioned on the base (photo 7)
- with a plane-section 6mm-thick wheel and with the arm perpendicular to the vise (photo 12), adjust the grinding depth using the ad-
justment screw (photo 11) (consult the chains table at the end of the handbook, column O).
- at this point, you may start grinding
N.B Using a 6mm-thick wheel, expert operators can maintain the original radius of the limiter. In this case, it is recommended to
tilt the wheel arm from 10° to 15° (fig. 4). Make sure that this operation is precise, using the template provided (fig. 3 point A)

MAINTENANCE

The grinder is provided with an operating hydraulic vise and with a small piston loaded with oil AGIP OSO46 (ISO L-HM-VG46/
DIN-31524)
- Always disconnect the plug from the socket before carrying out any maintenance, lubrication or cleaning operations
- The machine must be kept clean, in order to make safety instructions and plates clearly legible. Clean it using a rag or a swab.
- Do not use compressed air, that is likely to bring the metal dust in positions which cannot be reached, damaging essential components
of the machine.
