After 5 days of shutdown, when a shutdwon is to be made longer than 5 days, it may be
advisable to use it to carry out a cleaning before applying the next preservation
procedure.
1. Carry out a long cleaning for the elimination of microbiological contamination. The
product to be used and its dilution vary according to the stopping time.
2. Discard cleaning solution
3. Conservate the reverse osmosis membranes in order to keep membranes protected
in long periods when they will not be used, thus avoiding their degradation. The
product to be used and its dilution varies according to the stopping time.
The steps and precautions that must be taken to conserve the membranes are:
A. Fully immerse the elements in the pressure tubes with a preservation solution.
B. Minimize the contact between the solution and the air in order to avoid their
oxidation.
C. Check pH weekly. When the pH is equal to or less than 3, it is necessary to
change the preservation solution.
D. Change the conservation solution at least once a month.
This sequence of microbiological control and conservation of the membranes will be
repeated during the time that the plant stops.
Before resuming the production of water it is recommended to rinse (followed by an
alkaline cleaning if the shelf life has been long).
