3. If the pipettor is new or the battery is low, keep the XL in the base for
14 hours to fully charge it before continuing use.
4. An "r" sign will appear on the display when the XL is ready for use.
Once you press either of the START buttons the XL is ready for
both default pipetting at maximum volume and for program changes.
The XL will admit a charge with the switch in either ON or OFF
positions. However, if the XL is charged with the switch in the OFF
position, the battery will not obtain a maximum charge as only a low
current charge is applied.
Leave the pipettor ON in the charging base to retain user-selected
settings as switching it OFF will reset the unit to default settings.
If the XL is left ON uncharged for several days, the display will go
blank and there will be no response from the keyboard or START
buttons, as the battery voltage has fallen below the required operating
level.

2.3. Battery and the LO BAT function

The XL has a software/hardware-based battery capacity control
system. During the recharging process five rectangular symbols will scroll
on the display. When the battery is completely charged, a
